Sorry to re-post this, have tried the WP historical soc. and a few members, and dont seem to be able to contact anyone.
Would any one out there have a pictureor plans of the Oroville Rounhouse. I would love a copy of a few pics.
I can build it from memory except the number of stalls. I worked the last shift before the work force was transfered to Stockton. Have a picture of our crew on the turntable, but unfortunaly the units on it block all but the roofline.
John–I’ve been trying too, but the only photos I can come up with are in a book called D-Day on the Western Pacific–one photo shows an overview of the roundhouse, but it’s in the background and all but obliterated by the sand tower and a lot of F-units. A second picture only shows a partial view, and not too much more detail, unfortunately. According to the book, as of 1943 it was an 18-stall roundhouse, with only the first 10 stalls having roof-vents. If I can figure out how to copy the pictures, I’ll post them for you, but I don’t know how much help it’s going to be, as hardly any details show up except for the general outline of the building. I’ll see what I can do. The book is: D-DAY ON THE WESTERN PACIFIC by Virgil Staff, and was published in 1982 by Interurban Press, PO Box 6444, Glendale, CA 91205. The ISBN is 0-916374-51-3. If you’re modeling the early diesel era on WP, this might be a good book for you to get, it’s got some good information and some very good photographs.
Tom
Tom I am totaly impressed. With 16 stall it was after the addition of the left four stalls that was added for diesels. I just need the layout as I can remember the rest from working there. That or those pictures are perfect.
Make you a deal I will get my photo copied, its the one that has two locomotives on the turntable with the compleat 3 shift crew sitting and standing on them. Was a company picture and was furnished to each employee, approx 8 x 20. Darn I was good looking in that photo, dont know what happened over the years, must have been the mileage LOL.
I should be in Sac in two or three weeks, Ill buy lunch if ya yaunt ta.meet.
I am writing a history of Oroville, CA, and researching the WP RR, and the Oroville rail yard/roundhouse, where my wife’s father worked, I found this site: [Just copy and paste site in Google, copy the map, and paste into a word page, where you can blow it up for details]
It is a hazardous waste study, but it gives location info, yard description (a little), and site maps of the yard layout. Might be some useful stuff there. Good luck!
