Seeking complete power truck assemblies (new or used) or the individual parts to convert the Lionel Navy Switcher (USN 65-00637) from a single motor / power truck to dual-motor power trucks… need more pulling power. Any information, pricing, availability or referrals will be very much appreciated.
The number is unfamiliar to me, but is this the yellow NW-2 from the Navy starter set from back around 1994? If so, it should already have two CAN motors, one in each truck.
The original Navy switcher set had only only one power truck. However, the non powered truck is not a true “dummy”, it is a power truck minus the can motor, some gears, and a speed/pall nut that holds the gears in place. You can order the missing pieces and make the second truck powered (I’ve done this for the exact same reason). You would need two drive gears (8010-116), one cluster gear (8040-118), one palnut (8960-52) and one DC can motor with pionion gear (8008-105). The entire truck assembly is not available as a unit from Lionel but you can do as others have stated and buy a similar assembly at a show or strip a junker down. I think I paid $15 for the parts when I did my conversion.
You can pick up any Lionel diesel with two can motors in the trucks and use them for parts for yours. All you have to do is remove the side frames(if they are different) and install yours. Then just substitute the powered truck and wire it up.I find them at shows or on e-bay cheap and they are a wealth of parts.Don’t get rid of the dummy trucks as you can make a up a dummy if you wan to.I’m getting ready to build a yard slug out of mine.
THANKS for the “detailed” information… that was just what I was looking for… any suggestions where these ALL these parts may be obtained in a single purchase… one-stop-shopping???
