I’m thinking about building a pallet mill on my layout and I’m trying to come up with a way to model mountains of pallets as simply and cheaply as possible. I suppose I could make them individually using stripwood, but that would take a looonnnngggg time [xx(], time I could spend on things like operating, etc. Is there a manufacturer that sells them in bulk, like in lots of 100 or so?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated…and if you have a photo of a similar industry you’ve modeled, the inspiration would be great. Thanks!
I would take the time to build them. You would get a great feeling of acomplishment after you have finished and you could say “I did it, i finally built all those pallets!”[:)][C):-)]
Check on Ebay under
Toys & Hobbies > Model RR, Trains > HO Scale > Track, Accessories, Scenery > Buildings, Structures
Every day or so there’s a whole pile of Woodland Senics details. I have seen a lot of packages of pallets.
Walthers sells them 30 or 40 for around $5
Preiser sells them around $10 or $12 for 50 or 60
BTS sells them
I think Scale Structures sells them too
Look around I’m sure there’s more.
Try a trick with lumber piles: make a box of appropriate size, out of anything, cardboard, styrene, thin wood, etc, then only cover the outside of the box with one layer of pallets. I do this with stacks of lumber, on the ground or on flatcars etc.so the inside of the pile is hollow. I learned this after gluing a lumber pile with what seemed like 125,000 scale 2x8’s. good luck.
