Need some weathering help.

I have been trying to weather a freight car with diluted Accu-rail (I think thats what it’s called) and am haveing trouble getting the paint to adhere. The paint beads up cause of sufrace tension of the water. I don’t want to use a richer mix because it will be too dark. What can I use to make the paint adhere?

I’m sure you guys will know the answer. Thanks in advance.

Did you wash car first with warm water and some dish detergent and let dry completely? Most cars have oils still on them and it cause paint to bubble or bead up, after car is dry handle with those cheap latex gloves, finger prints from oil in skin will also stick to car sides. Then try thinnig paints with water. Air you using air brush or brush? For airbrushing, I prefer thinning paint 50/50, with water. You are using water based paints? Is the paint accu-paint? It is water based, but a clean car is a must.

Chad, the best advice I can give you is to head over to Model Trains Weathered and ask this question.

Matt
