I have a Lionel ZW (post-war) transformer. I recently purchased a new MTH diesel with horn & bell. The engine, however, does NOT have Proto-Sound, I found a short article in classictoytrains - july 2007 – page 29 that suggested a Lionel product that I could possibly use to ring the bell on my MTH engine. The Lionel number & description is 610-5906-001 sound activation button. I would like to obtain two (2) of these controls if possible. Does anyone on this forum have such an item as this at a reasonable price? I don’t use Pal-pal, but I could pay with a money order, though. If you have this item & want to sell it to me, please advise your address and price of the two (2) Lionel sound activation buttons. Thank you! … Silas.
Silas,
Is your problem that you can’t find the item or that you can’t find it at a price you like? If the former, any Lionel Authorized Service Center should have it, or be able to get it.
Otherwise, try www.lionel.com and go to “Customer Service” ----> “Order Replacement Parts.” It is item 49 out of 49 designated (as you said) 610-5906-001 “Button, Snd. Activation” @ $13 each.
I use two buttons with my postwar ZW to blow whistle/horn and bell on modern Lionel sound systems such as RailSounds, with excellent results. This reply does not guarantee that it will do what you want with your MTH locomotive, however.
the sound activation button has worked for three of my mth railking models for the bell.
good luck. they are sometimes on ebay if you search hard but $13.00/each from lionel is probably close to what you’ll need to pay anyway.

After I posted yesterday’s note about the bell activation button, I discovered that I may have a Lionel outlet near my hometown. Many thanks for your reply to my query! …Silas

I think that I may have found a Lionel dealer in my area to help me acquire the bell activation button for around $13. Many thanks for your reply! …silas
