Hey gang-
I’m getting ready to put a lake on my layout. I’m going to try the new “Magic Water” from Walthers. I’d like to have some ripples on the surface of the lake. What are some different ways I could try to do that?

I remember an article in MR on this in the past. I will try to find it and let you know.
You could use a blow dryer. Just don’t let your wife catch you using hers…
I brushed on the ripples using “modge podge” over the water surface, it dries clear and glossy, available in Wal-Mart craft section, make sure you get the high gloss one, there is also flat finish.

Have fun & be safe

I think Woodalnd Scenics “Water Effects” would work well on top. I have had great luch with this. If you want large waves, try clear silicone caulk, brush it up into waves, then drybru***he tops white after is sets for a few days.

I use a sealent called Lexel: http://www.sashcosealants.com/home_improvement/products/lexel.shtml.
The results are much better then clear silcone caulk, or WS Water Effects.
It will stick to anything. cures to a crystal clear, high gloss finish, and is paintable. However, it is the stickiest stuff I’ve ever used. It’s also not water-based, stinks to high heaven for a day or so until cured, and is not recommended for direct foam contact.

That would make waves all right, wouldn’t it? [:D]

Karl-
VERY nice! That is very close to the setup I am doing. Got some guidance about how to get ripples vs. swells vs. chop? Feel free to contact me off-board if you wish.
