need to know how to make destroid terrain and more for a battle scene

I know how to use foam for the ground and plaster cloth but I dont know how to make craters, sandbags, destroid veicles, and destroid terrain.[?]

Is there some new war going on? Haven’t seen anything on CNN or Fox!

You might have some luck with the guys that do the minature war figures. I know C-n-C has a forum.

craters - Find some ball shaped objects or domed shaped lids around the house, at your local hardware store, or craft shop of the desired sizes. Press them into the foam to the desired depth.

sandbags - get some self hardening clay or plastic clay at your local craft shop. Roll it into a rod, then flaten the rod, cut to length, let harden, and paint

destroyed vehicles - get some plastic mini-tanks, mangle as desired with soldering iron, maybe punch some holes with a hot wire, then paint. Maybe dull black for burnt paints, add rust.

Have fun

It depends on the terrain - WW1 produced a moonscape of mud due to the sheer quantity of ammunition fired (farmers still plough up unexploded shells, etc 90 years later). Urban warfare tends to leave some surprisingly delicate things intact but destroy other things, I’ve heard of buildings losing entire walls but still having pictures hanging on remaining walls. If you’ve ever seen films such as “Saving Private Ryan” and “Enemy at the Gates” you’ll have an idea of what to build. Vehicles don’t survive long in such areas - lighter stuff often gets overturned by shockwaves and usually burns out. Just a few ideas that might be of use!

You could try using a heat gun and soldering iron or hot wire carving tool. Other mounds, craigs, revines and sand or dirt piles can be done with sculpamold, plaster etc. Fini***he area off with glued down scenery products of use sand, real dirt gravel whatever you can find about for the landscape you want.

Thanks and Railroad_Brit how do you know my name?

An old horror makeup trick might help. Try burying a button with a string attached under some ballast or the like. (The makeup people used embalmers putty) then when it semi hardends quickly yank the button through it creating a crater(or bullet hole for the makeup people).

You might check out some books made for Armor modelers doing battle dioramas.

P.S. destroid is correctly spelled destroyed
