Needing decals made

I’m need some decals made for my fictional railroad. I have tried all the decal manufacturers and I have to order 200 sets (Ouch). I have been thinking of doing my own but I need them to be printed in white. At one time there was a ALPs printer that printed white, but it is no longer in production. Any one have any suggestion.

Try an old signmaker’s trick: paint a white area just slightly smaller than your decal. Make the decal “in reverse”, with a colored background and clear lettering. Applied over the white area, the lettering shows up white while the colored part of the decal hides the rest of the white area. The trick is to make sure your colored areas are truly opaque, otherwise the white background will show through. If you plan on weathering after decaling, you may be able to hide any white that bleeds through.

Hope that helps.

Darrell, quiet…for now

Don Manlick used to advertise in MR, and he runs custom decals in 25 sheet runs. My club has dealt with him in the past, and he’s always come through for us. He apparently doesn’t have a website, but check out the ads in MR/RMC…he should be in there.

Darrel, transparent…for now, has the solution. I’ll just provide an example. I downloaded this image and printed it on clear decal paper, then painted the background white with cheap acrylics.

I believe Don Manlick retired from the decal making business some years ago. It’s unfortunate, too, since his product was excellent.

If you look around further, there are most certainly other decal makers offering far smaller minimum runs than 200 sets per run.

I had Railgraphics do a run for me on my fictional railroad, it cost 101 for 25 sets, but they are Microscale quality. Just have your artwork and send it to him, he is good.
