Neighbourhood (garden) RRs?

I was wondering if any one knew of where a few neighbors were all model RRers and built themselves a RR that spanned all their yards? They all worked together to build one RR and then each used it either independantly and of course together?

If “yes” how well did such an arrangement work? Did one eventually decide to sell their property and move on? How did that go? Did they each do a different type of operation, i.e freight, commuter, over their ‘open access’ model?

Are there known neighborhoods like this, and it is a buyers covenant to take on their share of the backyard RR, and contribute their share of fun?

Just curious. [:)]

Never heard of such an association. Too many situations to overcome. What kind of power would you use How would it be set up so each operator could control the whole RR ? How about that neighbor in the middle that won’t clean his part of the track. How about the neighbors grand kid 3 houses down that steps on your prize Loco? ETC> I have a “garden” RR & 1 RR with 1 owner-operator presents enough problems. Not ruling out the possibility that somewhere in this world there is a group of neighbors that are crazy enough about trains to try it. jerry

I think the task of finding more then one person in a nieghbor hood thats intersted in trains, let alone right next to each other!
or maybe thats just around here… sigh

It’s highly unlikely that even two neighbors are going to share an interest in railroading, let alone an entire neighborhood. Here in a town of 40,000 population I know of only two people other than myself who have outdoor railroads.
