I hope they get it!
$14,000 to write up a grant request? I’m going into the governmental grant request writing industry!
Good luck!
I am confused what this actually accomplishes? Does it serve a new industry? an inland port? Take trucks off the road? etc. The TIGER grants are highly competitive and picks generally have a high standard to meet in terms what the intended improvement is suppose to accomplish and often have a intermodal connection to it - like rail to ship/barge, or combining bus and rail/transit connectivity, or grade separation projects to reduce congestion.
The grant will rebuild 100 miles of trackage from mcgill to the mainline railroads. It will re- link the Ruth copper mine to the outside world via rail. The copper ore currently moves via truck to a transload point by I-80. This will also make it possible for the NNRY to have a link to Amtrak.
Mark talked about this in Feb 2013. He has the equipment to provide the service and the transportation fees collected would help maintain Nevada Northern Railroad.
This would be fantastic! I would love to visit the NNRY again, it is an amazing operation.
Well, first off, the town is spelled “Currie”; not “Curry”. Further, it does not make sense to run trains to an interchange with US Hwy 93 at Currie. I’m reasonably certain that what the article intends to say is that the end point will be interchange with Union Pacific at Cobre, NV
If the railroad is more cost effective, why don’t they just take the cost out of the diffferent between trucking costs and rail costs. I live 2000 miles from the railroad, so why should I pay for it and why do I have to pay $14,000 to ask for the money?
All the way to Curry? This is really exciting!
