Coming out soon wonder what it could be?
Interesting. I just saw your post/thread as of now and took a quick peak at Rapido’s Facebook page and they have not mentioned a new announcment. Where did you learn of this possible new announcment?
On credit valley railway web site
They don’t say a scale or even a teaser for the product. Kind of weird.

“To Be Announced First Week of December”
Yeah, “[zzz]” is right! No details but announcing December. I mean, I’m not exactly on the edge of my seat. We don’t even know the scale! It could be N and then I would’Nt care at all. Ok, that was a bad pun. I’ve just lost interest with Rapido after my disappointment with there SW1200 lighting cuts. I have no time for a surprise announcement in a mystery scale. Sorry to sound cynical and to rain on others parades.
Since the norm has become for new products to become available one to two years after they are announced, I’m not real excited about this.
If and when this product becomes available, then I might be interested. Until then, ho-hum.
It’s referred to as a tease. Rapido’s sense of humour at work again:
Train crash in …

Keep in mind what the OP is talking about is on the Credit Valley hobby shop’s website. As far as I can see, there’s nothing on Rapido’s website or their latest e-newsletter talking about a new ‘surprise’ announcement.
I suspect this could be a dealer exclusive product announcment & run, similar to what Broadway Limited Imports did this year when through the dealer Factory Direct Hobbies, they did a limited exclusive new run of their six wheeled three axle Plymouth switchers that you could only buy throughh FDH.
I’m just happy Rapido is finally building those CPR ten wheelers. It’s been so long coming I can now afford to buy two which I really need…
Really hoping they’ll build those FM 16-44… followed by Trainmasters and C Liners.
I was interested until I saw the MSRP. Talk about sticker shock.
Anything steam costs more these days, but Rapido tends to be “up there”. But for those who are big fans, they’ll probably open their wallets or find a way. Going forward, sticker shock will continue to be common.
I’ve bought several previously owned steam locomotives for this reason even in situations where I’m not sure I “need” them. Even so good ones sometimes cost as much “used” as a new diesel locomotive. Very protypical.
I’m pretty sure the main manufacturers realize it costs so much more in labour to build a steam locomotive than a diesel that trying to make a cheap one is pointless. Athearn did this for an old time consolidation and it’s disappointing frankly. Sticks out as inadequate next to my used Spectrums.
Taking the tender apart to get at the electrics is the same task as taking the shell off a full diesel locomotive and then there’s still the locomotive to get the shell off. There’s two sets of monkey motion drivers to build and fit to the model. Then there’s a wealth of exterior detail to add when manufacturing. They finished model requires more packaging protection although current packaging does appear to be converging on one style for all locomotives I noticed.
Labour costs for steam are probably twice that for diesel and for original tooling also, I would guess. Those steam locomotives won’t be getting any cheaper and I suspect lower overall demand at any price will continue to get worse as fewer o
Hmm…
Could you please post a picture comparing your models and point out what you do not like?

No.
The main model is attractive looking enough to think it’s worth buying especially at the price. The main issue is the valve gear is not at all detailed. The valve rod is free floating and floats right out of the valve chamber all by itself. Also, the blind drivers seem a bit wide and tend to short over Peco or ME turnouts. Mine also stutters randomly for no apparent reason. Neither of these defects is evident enough to show up until you run the model. There are a number of video reviews I checked before buying this model. A photo won’t tell you anything or I would not have bought this model in the first place.
It’s not going to be a keeper in my roster. Have over 60 locomotives and don’t need a dud. That’s for two layouts mind you but this consolidation was for turn of the century to 1940’s period and can’t cut the mustard. Basically a waste of money to buy and therefore a waste of money to build imho. I’ll find out how bad when I try to sell it back to my LHS.
The real tragedy is this was a re-issue by Athearn from old tooling. Cheap but not good value. To the point of the high pricing of the better steam locomtives still coming onto market.
For that MSRP they are going to have to pry open their wallets! [swg][(-D]
I am wondering if this announcement is for real. Rapido just announced 3 new models less than 2 weeks ago. Seems like a quick tirn around to announce more. As a Rapido fan, I hope I am wrong.
The only one I could find was this 2-8-0 which looks to be a former MDC offering…
MDC’s earlier versions were noisy, but decent runners. I had the Consolidation…
…and the 10 Wheeler…
…and an Atlantic, too, but I didn’t fit in with my layout at that time.
