so guys i have one of the non sound equipped ones mine is a SOO version i tried the unit on the track noticed when the unit is running long hood the strobe light lights up “not a flashing kind” might when i get a decoder for it any way when unit runs cab forward light stays out… is this the same with other units with a strobe light on the roof or is it just the way mine is wired…oh yeah my other unit is back ordered cant wait for it to arrive.

I got two of the Genesis MP15ACs in the Canadian Pacific scheme. The rotary beacon on both of mine when I tested them on DC current came on when running long hood forward.They did not flash. I have since added a NCE D13SRJ decoder to both of mine and remapped the rotary beacon to come on with F4 and flash as it should. Before the remapping it came on with F2.
So far I am very happy with mine. They run real well and are very quiet. I may add a Loksound decoder in each later on. Yes I could have waited for the sound versions but I am not a fan of the MRC sound decoders plus the Loksound decoders have all the special motor features ect. The only thing I was not happy about is my second unit arrived with a minor and hard to notice break in the rear handrail. I sent Athearn an email about it to see if I could get a replacement part.

JJJ, i havent got a sound one yet (and wont for a long time), but my friend brought his SOO one over the other day. I, like you, have heard some complaints about the current sound system that Athearn uses, but this MP15AC was MUCH better. Im around MP15ACs often in the Twin Cities here, and they did an outstanding job on it. See if you can find one somewhere at a LHS or something to test out, Athearn really did an amazing job with this unit.

thanks for your help …they do run beautifully might try for the 3rd one the thing that I’m not happy with is the promise for working ditch lights then not a done thing but then the cp ones have them in different places as do the soo units

I saw a preproduction model of these nearly two years ago and have been waiting since then for their release. So much so, I got an Atlas MP15DC, which have now been discontinued. I can’t want to get one.
