Ok so I bought this locomotive off of Ebay last week. A Union Pacific 8-40C. It arrived today and upon opening I discovered that part of the fuel tank is broken, I went to take it out of the box and the fuel tank came off alone, shouldn’t require much more than a little glue to repair it. And then I discovered that the front and rear hand rails are not in the box, the snow plows are not in the box, and the window awnings are not there as well.
Now I’m pretty sure that all locomotives must have front and rear hand rails. Snow plows I know are on all locomotives, but I haven’t ventured that far as to put them on myself yet. And upon looking at the picture on the Atlas website and a few photos of a real 8-40C loco I know I should have gotten these parts in the box or like all the other locomotives I’ve bought from Atlas had them on the locomotive upon receiving it.
I know it’s not the shippers fault for not having these parts, but I’m still a little miffed that I didn’t receive any of the needed parts. The locomotive looks great, but not having these parts just ticks me off a little bit.
I’m wondering what I should do to get these parts. Should I write back to the seller to see if he has them or something? Should I write to Atlas and ask how to get these parts, guessing this is the best bet?
Sorry about this guys, unlike all the other locos I’ve purchased, this one had everything taped to the back of the styrofoam. Guess that’s my stupid fault for not thoroughly looking over everything. Disregard this topic.
I’m sure I will once I get the fuel tank back on, my dad said he’d put the handrails on for me.
One question though, I have Goo for the glueing, but would super glue work or not? I don’t want brown blobs of glue showing up, my dad is pretty good with this stuff so it shouldn’t be to bad, just wondering though if super glue would work or not.
I´d prefer the goo, as you can adjust the tank after you applied it, which may not be possible with super glue. The handrails imho don´t need to be glued on; they´ll stay in place if you just pu***hem in the holes made for them. The sunshades may need some drilling. (based on my Atlas silver 8-40CW)
That sort of thing happened to me once, i got my WC SD45 P2K and left the coupler packet(the one with the Plows, and extra pieces) on a table, and got really mad when i couldnt find it, plus the engine came with one of the rear steps missing[censored] so i need to get a “replacement” of some kind on there, but i think we have all had these expierences.
Hawks05,
Put the front and rear handrails on before applying the plows. Can be a real problem attaching the lower handrail to the pilot w/ the plows on. Glad you found your parts.

Don’t sweat it. I’ve walked around the shop looking for my air ratchet when it was in my hand. (It HAD been a LONG day). There are people on Ebay looking to rip folks off right and left. Glad you didn’t get ahold of one. But didn’t you feel good when you found the parts?
My dad was actually the one who found the parts. He made me feel pretty stupid. I haven’t put any snow plows on any of my trains yet, I want to so it looks more realistic. The handrails I might try tonight yet to see if those go in easy.
Are window shades on all trains? I can’t remember. That too is a stupid question. I had a hard time the last time I tried to put window shades on a train, ended up just nixing that idea.
Are the snow plows very hard to put on? Will that require any drilling or anything?
The fuel tank is fine as long as I don’t pick it up and hold it on that side. No problems when I run the train at all.
