In 2013, Atlas introduced a HO redesigned Alco S-2 in its Gold Series. Atlas just announced a new production with new paint schemes including the Canadian National. I am interested to buy one but I would like to have comments on this model based on the first release. I already have a Gold Series Alco RS-3 and I am really happy with it.
I’ve got the recently released Great Northern sound version. I like it a lot. Great sound and it runs nicely. On mine, they put on the wrong truck sideframes. This is unlikely to happen on any other roads. It’s got a metal frame, so it weighs a bit. I haven’t been able to pull any cars with it, yet; so I can’t give a car count. They don’t seem to have much road-specific detailing, but a lot of switchers didn’t have much of such things.

I recently picked up an Atlas S2 which was the 2013 release , I thought mine was the Silver series. Very happy with this loco, quite heavy and has decent pulling ability for a small switcher. I added a Loksound decoder and it couldn’t have been easier, it has a 8 pin plug and an enclosure for a speaker over the the front truck, there was enough room for the micro decoder. Very happy with it, mine is in PRR.
