New Bachmann Announcements...The beginning of the end (to our wallets)

N scale too? I hope they have it available in the B&M scheme like the HO model, it would fit in with my newly planned layout perfectly!

It wouldn’t surprise me if they also slapped a trailing truck on the back and sold them as Mikados. I think it had provisions for one.

There was a Plus version of that Consolidation, and there’s one up on eBay right now. The Plus engines didn’t have traction tires though, and weren’t good pullers.

Crap. I was hoping for a nice Spectrum dcc / sound equipped 2-6-0.

On Bachmann’s photo gallery (available through the forum) they have photos of most of their On30 and large scale stuff, along with the BEAUTIFUL Jackson & Sharp Excursion cars in HO. I will definatly have to have about 7 of them for my excursion train.

Well don’t count your pennies just yet.

They aren’t on the shelves yet…

Sorry, but the GE 45-tonner was brutish and crude:

On the other hand, the Whitcomb 44-tonner is the most handsome and suave of the small diesel switchers:

Too bad the Whitcomb has no side-rod action. Regardless, did you know that an unpainted HO Overland brass model of a Whitcomb 44-tonner sold for $511 on ebay tonight? I tell you that little Whitcomb is appealing!

Some real cool stuff here!

Sorry…should have checked my source on that one…LOL

Actually, I prefer the Humpback 65ts the best, but those are already available in brass.

I like the 45t as it has siderods, and they are everywhere. The local RR museum in Wisconsin has one, the Cass Scenic RR has one, the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley RR has one, etc…

Phil

Thanks to Train Orders for the link.

The 5026 looks to use the same size and length boiler from the 2900 series. The prototype 5011 class had a larger diameter boiler and the engine is longer, but the model will satisfy most wanting a 5011 class for very little money.

Was wondering if they were gonna reintroduce a 2-10-4 “Texas Chugger” ever again. I prefer it with the 14 wheel centepede tender though like the old one had. Always wanted one of them. If only they’d make it in N scale…

At least us N scalers are getting another DD40! Gotta get me a new one of them. I have the 16-wheel drive, dual motored “Plus” version and it’s a great loco. These should be even better. [tup]

Hopefully I’m not late to the game providing this, but click on this link and scroll to the bottom. There’s a pic of the 45 tonner (yes, it’s a 45)–WITH SIDE RODS.

Just saw that photo this morning when they posted it…It is SWEET!

Will have to get a few for future modeling projects, one as a shop switcher, and one to letter US Navy…

Phil

When they come out with a new & improved N-scale DD40AX Centennial that runs like a Kato or Atlas, please let me know. And what ever happened to their plans for a 4-6-0? I would snatch one of those up in a heart-beat. [sigh]

So, what;s the story on the excoursion cars? Are they actually used on museums? They look like the 3/4 scale things I see at the Zoo, not a fullbred Standard Guage

I consider the N Scale 44 Tonner exciting news, but I don’t want DCC, I can just see the questions coming in now!

Will it negotiate 9" radius curves? - probably, but 15" would look better!

I have 4% grades, will this engine pull a ten car train up this grade? - A ten car train will probably pull the engine ‘down’ this grade!

I would like to fit sound in the engine but there doesn’t appear to be much room for a good sized speaker? - surpise! surprise!

The engine seems a little light, how can I add weight to it? - stand on it!

Sorry! couldn’t resist!

Teditor.

Looks good:

Looks like a good place to start a CPR DTC [:D]

Well, luckily none of the new releases endangers my wallet, but it’s interesting to see that Bachmann is re-releasing the Santa Fe 2-10-4. I’ve heard good things about the improved performance of the Northerns in their revised “Standard” line, and very good things about the Berkshire. I always thought that the Santa Fe “Texas” type was quite a good-looking loco, so it will be interesting to see how the re-tooling is.

I’m also wondering if their ‘Spectrum’ line is going to continue concentrating on high-quality smaller steam locos–I mean SOMEBODY should, LOL! How many more “Big Boys” do we need? (Oops, I said that and I promised that I wouldn’t! [:I])

Tom [:)]

Hopefully a spectrum model? That’s about the only thing I’d remotley get from that list. I kinda like the 44-tonner.

The excursion cars are prototype after the cars at Disneyland, which Walt Disney probably modeled after a Jackson & Sharp design used by many early railroads…

Phil

If they can make an N gauge loco with DCC on board, why can’t they make an HO gauge speeder with DCC.
