This is a new building block material that I recently received from Dave Batemen (stripes2) of Model Rail Structures.
I’ve started to experiment with them and there’s lots of potenetial! I plan on making more abutments and building foundations using this stuff. I use Zap a gap to piece them together.
Once the Abutments are glued in place I’ll be reworking the river bed, banks and surrounding area.
This material is also porous, which means weathering will be very easy to do. Like I said this stuff has a lot of potential and is very easy to mork with.
I saw a vendor selling these at a recent train show and considered using them for bridge abutments. How long did it take you to piece together what you’ve shown in your picture? Do you think spackling compound could work to hold the pieces together a give a realistic look?
Cool looking stuff. I assume they are individual blocks, or are they strips. They look like a good replacement for carving the blocks in a wall of plaster. I hope to hear more about how they work and where you get them.
As for spackling compound, well all I used was Zap a Gap (CA glue) and I’m happy with the results. I suspect when I start weathering the gaps will fill up easy enough.
These blocks come in individual blocks, which can be cut smaller by scoring both sides and then snapping the block with your fingers.
The two abutments took about two to three hours to glue together.
Thanks for alerting me to this. Not only is this particular product of interest but the entire website has stuff I have been looking for but did not know anybody actually made. All sorts of details.
a few years ago there was a product available that came from Germany. It came in the form of kits for castles & other European structures. These blocks looked simular to this product except they came in various earth tones. I built an entire HO stone bridge with them & also a 20.3 / 1 RR station. At present I can’t find the kits anywhere in the US. If anyone knows if they can still be purchased or would like pictures of the finished products please contact me. Jerry PS I think they were originally available thru Model Expo. in Florida
