New commuter rail line opens Monday in Montreal
I rode train #1203 which left Central Station today at 1215. It was full of people of all ages snapping pictures and having a good time. They were not railfans, just people living along the route who were delighted to have a train to ride. Some people are saying that the cost of the line was too great for the number of people it’s expected to carry, but given the large population living in the area it serves, I think that in a few years it will become one of the most popular commuter lines. It’s too bad that they didn’t electrify the new part of the route. Was this for operational reasons or just to save money?
They probably didn’t electrify the new section just to get it off the ground first to see if it will be successful before doing something like that
