New Cookie needed for this site?

I like to keep my stored cookies small so I can find out if there’s any tracing ones that have been recently added by simple browsing.

Recently I noticed you need another cookie to keep logged in on this forum. The cookie is cs.trains.com

Usually all this page needed was the trains.com cookie.

Any idea why the new “cs” thingy is needed? And has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?

I don’t watch it that close. I use Firefox and have it set to delete everything when I close Firefox.

Tom

Well there seem to be badly placed Google ads on here now. Did you see the Siemens one?

Paul

I notice the ads too, but I thought they were here before. And as a note I use Firefox exclusively. But I don’t want it to automatically delete all of my cookies every time I exit. Several are of saved info for the many forums and such I visit.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed you need cs.trains.com in order to stay logged in.

Kalmbach has reworked the directory tree from trains.com/trc/cs to the subdomain cs.trains.com… my initial assumption would be that this allows them to use a dedicated server for the forums, or spread the forum load over multiple servers (can’t do that with directories of a site, they all live as “children” of the “parent” directory) as opposed to hosting the entire trains.com website from one dedicated box.

Or Community Server (IIRC the guys who designed the forum software) released a new version of the software, and it needed this structure rather than the old one that was being used.

Yes, I have found that I must wait for the server to load the correct code before I can use the textbox and any smilies after being away from the site, even for a few seconds. It didn’t use to be that way. It is like that on some other forums, too.
