I found this site on the web and I would like to know how reliable it is. Once to the site click on the “new CSX” tab on the bottom. It says that CSX is starting to use this new system and I was wondering if it was effective yet.
I haven’t heard any of it, but I’m out in the hinterlands, with no “hot” traffic.

There is no New Train Symbols…CSX Just put in a New Multi-Million Dollar Dispatching System in Indianapolis and Albany that runs on Qxxx-xx Symbols. They would have to spend a fortune to change it.

There was talk of Conrail type symbols being used but it seems to have never happened. Many of us were looking forward to it so we knew where a train was going, rather than guess at Q-whatever.
It’d be Awsome if CSX Did what UP was doing with the heritage units only
with GEVO’s Conrail B&O C&O Seaboard Chessie and So On[dinner]
That new csx dates from 2004…as of 2006 the traditional CSX tranin identification conventions are still in use.
While new managers come and go within the rail industry and each may have their own ideas on train identification conventions that the may want to implement they ultimately get to the point where they find out just how integrated a railroad’s train identification conventions are tied into the railroads entire computer system, Once they get and estimate of the manhours required to program and implement their ideas they come to the economic realization that their idea has no economic benefit to offset the costs and dangers of implementation.
