New Dream plan Build DVD

I got the new DPB DVD today it looks like a “keeper”…What do you thinK?..Cox 47

I think when they come is a bit out of sync for everyone, so I don’t know which one you got! To this point, I have only returned one, though some are clearly better than others.

What’s the title of the DVD?

Don Z.

Its Volume 11…Cox 47

Yes what was the title? There has been roughly… oh… 16 of them so far.

This one is Volume 11 , No title per se. How to’s on handlaying turnouts , weathering structures, Make roads from sheet styrene. A couple more , I wasn’t impressed with this one , going back.

Last one I got was 8, I must have been bad!

Let’s see…I have Volume 1-10, no 11 yet. I also have 4 “Real Rails Edition” that cover GM’s Geeps, Horseshoe Curve, F Units and Big (Modern) Power, 1 “Rails Across America” that profiles the Tehachapi Loop, 1 “Special Project Edition” that covers realistic operations and 1 “Industries in Action” DVD that covers the steel industry and railroads.

I have found good information in every DVD thus far; being a novice I am soaking in all of the information I can find.

Don Z.

just received the DCC one, yesterday, lots of good info, but the host is a liitle dry.

I sent the DCC back but yes the Host was a tad dry. But what a good presentation over all!

Glass of water anyone?

I didn’t get the DCC one , if it was any good at all , I’d keep it , I haven’t changed over to DCC yet but plan to. The info might help me.

I have the first four. I remember when the first one came, it said something about not having to return or pay for it. It was a “gift”…Somehow I ended up with #2 , #3 and #4 of the series but never any bills for them…

I only got a couple and then they stopped sending them? How do I get them to start coming again?

SamV

Where can I get them? I have 1 through 7 I think of E-bay and watch the heck out of them?

Cuda Ken

In mine, the bills were on the inside side and easy to miss. I’m surprised they didn’t send you a follow up bill.

Enjoy

Paul

Hi, all,

Okay, I confess! I was the host for the DCC DVD. After watching the DVD, I agree that I was a bit dry. Actually, the DVD was shot here in Southeast Texas (Beaumont) during the hottest week we had all year. With the lights and all, I was both figuratively and literally dry!

Digitrax was emphasized because that is the system that I have used and been happy with for over ten years. It has done what I want it to do for my layout. I agree that the Digitrax manuals are not that clear. They really need help!

For those of you who have not been involved in shooting something like this, it’s a very laborious and time consuming process. I spent about three months drafting and then refining the outline for the DVD with the producer from the Dream Plan Build people. Then we took three full days to shoot the DVD, starting normally about 8:30 or so and going until after 5. Normally there would be several retakes of each scene. The script was in outline form, so each take was a bit different. Looking back, I should have been a bit more animated but I was trying to be very clear and accurate in what I was saying.

Oh, what is not shown in the video is that I wear glasses, and am pretty blind without them. They asked if I could shoot the video without my glasses and I did. Luckily I’m near sighted so could actually see for the close in shots.

The display layout that was used was actually built some years ago to use in clinics and to test the signal system. If any of you attend the Lone Star Region Convention in Houston this June you’ll see the portable layout in use. Interestingly, I can project the computer screen through a digital projector onto a large screen in a clinic room and most people will follow the train on that screen rather than actually look at the demo layout.

Well, I think I’ll end here and go see if my copy of the DVD has arr

Steve:

Having shot 4 how-to videos now (and working on a fifth), I can tell you it’s a ton of work but hang in there. If you keep it up you get better the more you do.

Many people told me I didn’t smile enough, so I worked hard on learning to smile and be more “natural”. Ironically, I work very hard now at looking natural … but it has paid off. People tell me I look relaxed and like I’m having a good time.

I admire anyone who has attempted to do how-to video – as you say it’s a lot of work. Takes and retakes for hours on end.

But if it’s any consolation, I am an avid fan of the Dream, Plan, Build video series myself, and I applaud Kalmbach getting into the 21st century with this form of hobby information media.

Good morning, all!

Falls Valley, you might look at my article in the October Model Railroader on signaling using Winlok. I’m using it on my layout and it works well. The article is edited for length, but I’ve emailed you the original unedited version. I think you’ll like it. If you are more computer literate than I am, you might also check out JMRI which is free ware. They have a website which I believe the Digitrax website has a link to.

Joe, I’ve watched a couple of your videos on You Tube and they are impressive and very well done. I commend you! Your layout is truly superb. You do beautiful work.

Joe,

My wife noticed that too when we watched your videos. She said that you’re a handsome fella when you s
