Well it appears all or most of e-bayer sellers will have to post a $50K bond to sell on e-bay-Just read this in news from Komando.com—Appears your frindely gov’t don’t want you have anything without another tax or being gov’t owned. I live here in Md. and they tax and double tax everything-{thank you liberals}. Keeps going and we’ll be under another Hitler–that is how he got started.
This new law in Ohio is suppose to start May 2.[:(][?]
Looks like the Chief has found a new way to get the Ohioans! [:D]
The Ohio Law that is being referred to is one of our state senators wants to consider Ebay as the same as an auction and require the seller to be a license auctioneer, with proper bonding.
It has been recognized that this should NOT apply to the person selling from there home on an occasional basing and is being corrected to not require us to have this requirement.
Glad I haven’t lived in Ohio since 1964!
I don’t know about Md and liberals but over here in Ohio we are talking taxation by people who are so conservative they make Henry VIII look left wing.
Yep…I hear it about liberals. But Our governor taft is a republican. Under his administration every tax in Ohio has gone up…and all the lovely new taxes that never existed before. I now pay sales tax on my storage unit!!!Some people now are raving about what a great governor he is because there is some discussion about lowering state income tax. Even if it were lowered to the point prior to the raise that wouldn’t help with all of the other increases. Then there is that lovely institution The Ohio Turnpike Comission! The Turnpike was paid off several years ago…they had opted to keep the tolls in place so that the turpike would have excellent maintenance…ok that sounds good…but then why have the rates gone up I think 3 times? And the maintenance isn’t any better than when they were paying on the note. Reality is that the Ohio Turnpike Comission is the bread and butter do nothing job for many wealthy friends of the state government. I guess it goes to show that the public’s collective short term memory hasn’t gotten any better.
As far as the ebay thing…maybe Taft is trying to raise money for his increased personal gasoline costs.

Hello All: You think you have taxes? Up here I am in a 42%(FORTY TWO) income Tax bracket[[[[ $3400.00 property tax to the town & region, 7% G.S.T. (goods & services tax to the federal govt.) & an additional 8% P.S.T.(provincial govt) on everything we buy excluding groceries, We do not write any part of our mortgage off, so don’t feel so bad. Kind regards Steve
Henry VIII was a flaming left wing liberal, just ask Pope Clement VII.
That said, there are no conservatives left in power. Those we call liberal want the government to institute left wing principles; those we call conservative want the government to institute and enforce right wing principles, but the bottom line is that they both want the government to do it, and that is a LIBERAL policy.
Since Ebay is mostly interstate commerce I doubt that the law will wihstand a constitutional test.Ohio only has juridiction of sales within its borders. Further it is virtually unenforcable unless Ohio had access to Ebays data base. That would require a court order and co-operation from the federal government. In many states there is a line on the income tax form for reporting out of state purchases.Technically the sales tax is owed already under current law.The proposed law is merely an enforcment tool.Even if the law went into effect it could be easily circumvented.
This is nothing new since all states with sales tax are loosing tax revenue due to internet commerce.

Puleaze don’t get me started on taxes. #1 hot button here. In Illinois our governor blowdry said he would not raise taxes since taking office. But - tolls doubled on Jan 1 and fees have gone up on businesses terribly. I would like to see a government actually lower spending for once, but there are too many groups that have their hands out and too many groups to satisfy. As far as selling used merchandise it’s my opinion the sales taxes were paid when it was sold new. You don’t see people collecting sales taxes at a garage sale. John
Good ole governor Taft, he was just rated the worst governor in the country.
Worse than Glendenning (MD) was? They’re STILL trying to get out of
his financial mess! And don’t even THINK about a worse liberal! He
left the town he was mayor of in the hole, he left the county he was
county executive of in the hole, he left the state he was governor of in
the hole. The voters there are VERY slow learners! HAR!
Maryland! NOT the “Free State”… but the “Peoples Republik”
Maryland! NOT the “Old Line State”… but the “Bottom Line State”
As for tax on used items…Maryland has laws requiring collection
of taxes on ANY sales transaction (yup, including train meets,
garage sales, flea markets, etc.) where goods or services are
sold regardless whether they are new or secondhand. You are
also supposed to have a business license to carry on such ac-
tivities even if it is a single event you must have a license to cov-
er the event and taxes, fees, permits, etc. are all part of the over-
head.
Nothing at all would surprise me concerning our politicians. It seems as they stay up nights developing new inovative ways to increase user fees and impose new taxes on us hard working stiffs.
As a hard working guy who is a contributor to society, I’ve had enough of high taxes and resent politicians who are out of touch.
After all, I’m from NJ. You know New Jersey, that’s the state where the Republicans are really Democrats and the Democrats are really Socialists.

In Ohio we have term limits. Sounds sorta good doesn’t it, but in reality you get some inexperienced idiots in the legislature that don’t think anything through and then they get in front of a media micro phone and remove all doubt from our minds that they are idiots. This is what you have heard concerning the Ebay comments from Ohio.
And you guys thought that California was the land of fruits and nuts. Well, Ohio is full of Buckeyes and Chiquita Bananna is headquartered in Cijncinati.
Hiya Bill!
Silly socialists! Tricks aren’t for Socialists!
Tricks are for kids!
(Sorry, cereal company, but I couldn’t contain myself!)
Have a good day. ![]()
Remember…The government knows what’s good for us! Big Brother LOVES you!
While this has been pretty good natured, lets avoid the political stuff? The eBay tax is fair game for discussion as far as I’m concerned, but better framed it is tax payers vs tax collectors, and last time I checked, tax collection is bi-partisan! [:D]
It’s really only a matter of time until governments at some or all levels recognize that there’s a great untapped source of wealth sitting in Cyberspace, just waiting to be exploited.
Perhaps it will be a tax on e-mail. Perhaps it will be an tax on transactions made on-line. Perhaps it will simply be an access tax.
The possibilities are almost endless, and you just gotta know that these politicians are gonna get it from you at some point.
I actually think economic pundits have underestimated the positive impact of eBay on the overall economy! They shouldn’t monkey with it.
I thought bonding was scam artist protection. We read about ebay scams often enough the gov’t may be taking steps.
Hi Bob,
As an ex government person, I know it’s only a matter of time till they DO try to monkey with it. It’s up to us to insure that it doesn’t happen. The most powerful tool we have available to us is our vote. We just have to use it.
