New EJ&E paint scheme???

I was on Railpictures.net taking a look at some EJ&E Switchers. It appears that some of their switchers are being painted into a new “ugly” Yellow with a red stripe. I really hope this isnt a new trend for their switchers. I like the good’ol Dark green with the yellow J Ball. A question within the question is why would they spend money on painting locomotives when (hopefully not soon) they’ll be bought up by CN? [sigh] I wonder what all the EJ&E locomotives fates are to be? Dillon Harrison

Not all of the EJ&E goes away…there will be a Transtar survivor on the Gary end.

Yup, supposedly, the yellow switchers are the post merger (whenever that happens) paint scheme for the left-over portion of the J.

I am modeling a fictional branch of the J and found a lot of info here: www.ejearchive.com

The revised version of the Microscale decals have the red decals for the switchers in the sheets.

The yellow is indeed the new paint scheme for the switchers, replacing the green. I know the paint scheme is quite ugly compared to the green, it hurts your eyes looking at it in photos! Currently two SW1200s, 301 and 303 and a SW1001, the 446 wear the new scheme. They have been painting the switchers in this scheme since last summer. I’ve heard the new scheme referred to as the Burger King scheme, and I can see why.

EJE818, I never thought of that name for that scheme but that would make sence. Now all they need is the BK king on the sides! lol. Well its gonna be a shame to see them go.

I doubt all of the switchers will be repainted, 300 and 460 recieved green paint within the last year and the paint is still pretty fresh on those. I think they will only repaint the switchers that will be staying on the Gary Railway which will remain a transtar railway in Gary. I believe the 301 that was on Railpictures is now heading to Gary to get the red J-Ball logo to complete the paint job. Here is the 303 with the complete paint job. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=226994&nseq=0

About the rest of the EJ&E fleet, it is pretty hard to tell whether CN will keep the SD38-2s or not. Many of them were rebuilt to SD38-3 status within the last 5 years. Some of them were rebuilt within the last two years. CN has seemed to like engines rebuilt to -3 standards in the past like the former IC SD40-3s. If I had to make a guess right now the rebuilt SD38-2s won’t be retired right away, but the unrebuilt SD38-2s, the two SD38s, and the SDMs won’t last very long. The lone GP38-2, 703 should be pretty safe considering how many of those CN currently owns from the IC, GTW and WC. The switchers going to CN are also engines CN has none of in its roster so those probably won’t be around long.

Yes, i noticed also it seemed that CN liked the -3 locos. I really hate that new paint scheme. If its gonna be called the gary railroad or railway, They should have that on there instead of the J logo. Im going to miss the J. Gonna have to head out the west bridge junction and turner and get some shots before they wont be possible anymore. EJE818, If your reading this, Ive got a question. Is walker acessable? I know its where the spring switch is for heading off on to the IRL. I live in shorewood, I hear those trains come by in the morning and in the afternoon and I’ve been wanting to go see where they switch of the western sub.

I Live In Plainfield At Theodore Street Next To Shorewood So That Is Kinda Cool. Also The Question About The Illinois River Line I Wanted To Answer. (The Letter Capitalization Is A Habit) The Illinois River Line Would Head From Walker To Goose Lake (Plainfield To Morris) And Head Into Plainfield And Shorewood As Well As Minooka Than Morris To Do Some Work There Which You Should See Them Around Morris At The Afternoon Which The Train Would Head On The Illinois River Line At Walker Around 7-10 A.M. Which On Saturday It Is Almost All The Time 9:30 Around Caton Farm Rd. In Plainfield Which Sunday I Have No Idea And On Mon-Wed-Fri It Would Be Around 7-8 A.M. And Tue-Thur It Would Be Around 8-10 A.M.

Around Now You Would See A CN Locomotive Almost All The Time Which Before They Would Use An EJE Locomotive All The Time But Not For Now They Do Not But Hopefully Some Time Soon.

There Is Not Really Any Where To See Them Switch Off The Western Subdivision Unless You Go To An Abandoned Trail Through A Shady Old Forest Which Who Knows What Kind Of Rapists Are In There Hahahahahah. But Other Than That There Is Not An Area To See Them Get Off The Western Subdivision But Plenty Of Spots To See Them Any Where Else.

YUCK!! ‘Ugly’ is kind of an understatement. Looks like a hot dog stand gone wrong, or maybe one blew up, with a little more mustard available that day than ketchup!! UGH!! That’s just wrong! WHO dreams up these things??!! The only thing it has going for it is high visibility; no one can rightfully claim, " I couldn’t see it,’ unless of course they were blinded by the glare of it.
