New Engine on Layout

Well at long last I acquired a Canadian National F9 Diesel for my layout. I prefer steam but I wanted to add a more modern engine. When Rapido released their EMD F series I had been waiting to buy one, finally have them. Just getting them ready for the layout. This is the first engine, the others are another A unit and also a B unit.

Great running engines, forgot to turn on the power but besides the headlight and number boards there are also classification lights, green, white and red selectable, which I forgot to turn on and a backup light as well.

Great choice, that detail is remarkable.

I’m not envious at all! Nope, not one little bit! Nada!! Zero!!! Not me!!![:‘(][:’(]

Nice engines!

Some day maybe, although they will have to be in CP colours.

You are in luck, they did release these in CPR, the bad news is that they sold out before they were even released. I am referring to the Canadian passenger train sets.

I do not have any photos handy, but the Canadian passenger train with the CPR FP9’s were also released. The engines were released in the older Maroon as well as the Red paint schemes.

The Canadian set featured and ABA F9 series engine set and 10 fantastic finished Budd coaches. Check out newsletter #44 off of the Rapido site

The CPR F9P has a bit more detail than the CNR version, mainly engine roof detail and operating ditch lights and also a functioning strob light on one of the A units.

I bought two sets which I have put aside.

Thanks for the Rapido information. I have actually been following Jason’s releases for a few years now. The ‘Canadian’ was beyond my reach unfortunately but I had managed to acquire a fleet of Intermountain CP Fs and Walthers passenger cars before the Canadian was released. I’m happy with those.

If I do decide to spend the money the CP FP9s seem to come up regularly on eBay so all is not lost. I suspect Rapido will re-release them eventually too.

Right now I am concentrating on finishing what I have already started. In other words, I need to invest in several decoders and keep alives etc. to get my current fleet in shape. That will consume any and all model railroading funds for the near future and then some. Plus, my son is actually looking at houses for sale and negotiating a pre-approved mortgage!!! As soon as he is out my money will go into layout construction, finally[:D].

I had also acquired a set of the Intermountain EMD F9’s in the Maroon CP colours then they were released. At the time of their release theyi were the most detailed, and well built EMD F units you could find. Like you I had also acquired the Walthers coaches finished in the CPR Canadian livery.

However, after seeing the Rapido Canadian set in person when Jason was on his
Canadian tour I could not help but order a set.

I am sure your right and Jason will again re-release the Canadian at some point in time. The Rapido EMD F9’s sets are what I would consider the best detailed and have fantastic running characteristics

Nice engines. Will not fit in my subway tunnels, but nice engines none the less.
