New engine

I Have been railroading for 30 years buying engines, cars, and various other items but, not once have I ever come across this. I purchased an AC6000 Paragon 2 from BLI. while it was shipped by UPS I can only guess that, because of the extremely hot wheather, the engine was very hot like it just came out of the oven at 200 degrees. Well, I looked the engine over very carefully and found the lithium grease had melted and was all over the shell, the speakers and the main board. My biggest problem is how in the world do I clean the grease of the board without causing damage. Also the speakers. The shell is easy use alcahol. Has anyone out there have this happen to them before, and what did you do.

Contact the shipper and explain the circumstances. They should ship you a replacement. The issue must be sorted out between BLI and the shipping company…it isn’t your problem if you received it defective…which it is.

As Selector said. Sorry to see you had a problem but rather than try to fix it and wind up having them blame your attempt for causing the problem, contact them to try to get it replaced. You can probably fix it but you’re better trying for a replacement since it’s new.

Let us know how it goes.

Good luck

Edit:

By the way I have a bluelien and Paragon 2 AC6000. Great loco’s. When the dust settles you’ll be happy as long as you are running 22 inch and greater curves.

Thanks Guys for the info I am going to take it to UPS tomorrow and deal with it after our clubs busy meeting. I agrre with you about the AC6000 I have 2 this will be my third. Can’t wait to see them in a consist.

You bought this engine from BLI? Before I wasted any time trying to deal with UPS, I think I’d give BLI a call and explain what you have. Unless that engine was shipped with additional insurance, I think that UPS’s liability will be limited. And I’m not sure how you would convince them that they are at fault if the package the engine was shipped in was not damaged. If the experience of others who have dealt with BLI is any indication, they are likely to correct the problem with minimal effort on your part.

Oh, and be carefull if you decide to do any cleaning with alcohol. If you don’t read the bottle label closely and use some of the 90% stuff, you’re likely to take the paint off.

If you decide to try cleaning it yourself: DO NOT use alcohol on the painted shell-it will remove the paint. You might want to let your shell soak in warm soapy dish water-DAWN is a really good grease cutter. Use a soft bristle toothbrush and gently scrub the shell. Rinse with cold water. You may want to disassemble the mechanism and wash the mechanism parts in alcohol or Fantastic spray cleaner. Fantastic is a really good degreaser. after using alcohol or fantastic, rinse with water and let dry. To clean the circuit board, try rubbing alcohol and a soft toothbrush. Alcohol will not harm the electronics. Use a spray can of air to blow the electronics board completely dry. Sparingly relube mechanism during assembly. Let me know how you make out.

Something like this happened to me. I ordered a combo sander from Sears and UPS delivered it…to my backdoor. They never had done that before or since. I have a nice front porch that keeps things nice and dry. Well, it rained for three days before I realized it was out back. I contacted UPS, wow, what a process they wanted to put me thru. I then contacted my local Sears and they said we’ll replace it, it will take forever going thr UPS. That made me very happy with Sears. We had it delivered to the Sear store instead of my house.

Don’t even attempt to fix the problem. Ask for, demand, a replacement.

I second and third the motion. I would contact BLI first! then persue avenues with UPS if BLI suggests so.

Putting the above comments in a slightly different way:

Regarding shipping,BLI has a contract with UPS–you don’t. You should talk to BLI.
