I just recently joined trains.com and do so mainly for the forums and the archives, It took me a few weeks but I was just getting comfortable navigating my way through the website. Then yesterday afternoon, everything seemed to go haywire. I looked up at the top and they were announcing a new format for the website. I definitely have to give this a thumbs down. It is much more On the format I had just gotten used to, everything seemed concise. Now I have to scroll through page after page to find what I want. I don’t know why companies think they need to keep redigning their websites. I don’t believe in making changes for the sake of change. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix itt.
I’ve been using their website for a few years, and, to put it simply, it has always been broken. Specifically, there’s all manner of little bugs–and some bigger ones–being immensely annoying.
This particular version of Trains has only been in existence for a little over a year. The previous version of Trains and its forum was BROKEN and locked out many of its long term participants.
He’s talking about the ‘look and feel’ of trains.com, the all-access-pass side of the site. You’re talking about the switch from Telligent to Discourse forum software, which is completely different.
I don’t have the all-access service, but I do note that Trains Pro articles when I click on them have a different (and imho not better) appearance.
Firecrown does NOT want to mess with the all-access experience which is the crown jewel of monetization of our enthusiast community (or at least the perception of it that motivated Kalmbach Media so after about 2018).
