New forum format

Okay - I consider myself to be reasonably savvy when it comes to certain changes - but this one has me totally stumped. I have tried to read some of the other posts about changes to the forum and I posted on one thread, but I have NO idea what some of you are seeing - and where it is so I just decided to write a new thread. So, at the risk of repeating myself, here are my questions… Where is the ‘pencil’ to edit a post when I am writing it? I only seee it once I actually ‘post’ to the forum. Then if I do click on the ‘pencil,’ I don’t see any options for editing - i.e., bold text, italic, underline etc. Second, where is this Rich Text Formatting Option? Don’t see it anywhere. Third, I read where someone said there was a ‘spellcheck’ function. Where? Finally, I wrote this is paragraphs, but when it is posted, it all gets run together. Very confusing. Now I am using IE9 - does this have any affect? Not a real happy camper here.

If you are writing the post then you are in the edit mode, why would you need to the pencil Icon since you are already where you need to be to edit the post?

All part of the Rich Text format, spell check is right there. For me the system defaults to rich text mode.

I use IE9 so that is not the issue.

Well then call me Totally Confused. I am seeing none of these options and it is beyond frustration.

Over on the right side is the control panel with your login name etc. Click on Community settings. Click on the advanced options tab. Set the Content Editor to Enhanced. I beleive that this will turn on the Rich text options for your posts.

Simon…You are a genius. Don’t mean to rant and rave about this change but it was pretty frustrating.

Thanks

It took me a few minutes to {re}find everything that had changed too.

If you still don’t see “spell check” when the “rich text format” editing headline comes up for the post {it used to have to be clicked on now it shows up automatically} it is in the top line, right side where the “checkmark” with the “ABC” over top of the checkmark is.

If you click on it, it will underline your mistakes in a red squiggle line and if you click that word, it will give you the options {and hopefully the correct spelling for the word you were looking for}.

It never used to work for me, and I need it badly, but now it does.

I hope Simon took care of your other requests.

Any more, and you can ask here in this thread.

HAve a great evening!

In the Good Old Days, when I looked at the main page of any given Forum, I could clearly see the threads I hadn’t read, the threads that had changed since I read them, and the threads I’d read but hadn’t changed. Now, it’s just threads I’ve read and threads I haven’t read.

Why do improvement so often mean taking features out?

Galaxy,

Thanks for the help. When I was at GM we went through heaven knows how many consolidations and system changes - regardless of how carefully we planned and trained people, the first few weeks were always utter chaos. Those experiences made me pretty savvy, but when there aren’t any instructions or forewarning about what is going to happen, I get pretty frustrated - as do many others.

All in all this isn’t a bad change - but the rollout certainly could have been far better planned. The missing piece I hope comes back is the number of posts we all have written.

Apparently the new forum doesn’t work with Netscape Navigator?? That’s what I usually use at home (yes I know it’s obsolete but so am I). I can post if I go to Firefox or Internet Exploder, but not Netscape. When I hit “reply” the reply box comes up, but I can’t get anything to go in there.

Wow, that’s impressive! Look at this usage chart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Netscape-navigator-usage-data.svg you are, as they say, Off-the-chart!

This forum works great with the current version of Internet Explorer. What operating system is on your computer? That may be a limiting factor as to what you can use for web browsing.
