New forum tricks

'Spike:

How did I get my signature area formatted so well?

I’d love to show you all the code, but if I do, I’d have to kill you … no wait! That’s not right. [:o)]

Seriously, I have to think a bit about how to trick the forum into letting me display the code I’m using in my signature, or it will simply render my signature in this post.

Okay, with some thought I finally figured out how to display it without the code simply rendering my signature again. Here’s the code I pasted into my signature box:

Ahhhh, I see…the blue font color is 336699 mon ami Joe!!

Yes, try these font colors in your signature:

Old - [yellow][/yellow] New - <font=“#FFFF00”>
Old - [orange][/orange] New - <font=“#FF6600”>
Old - [red][/red] New - <font=“#CC0000”>
Old - [green][/green] New - <font=“#33FF00”>
Old - [blue][/blue] New - <font=“#336699”>
Old - [purple][/purple] New - <font=“#663399”>
Old - [brown][/brown] New - <font=“#660000”>
Old - [gray][/gray] New - <font=“#666666”>

These are “web colors”, for the less HTML - savvy among us.

Great job Joe! Looks like HTML code, I just needed a jump start. A complete color code chart can be found at the following site: http://www.blythe.org/webwork/NS3ColorSpecifier.html

The codes should work for most Internet browsers.

Thanks,

Ryan

Joe, you are a wealth of information, I can’t believe how knowedgable you are! [:D]

I cannot gey my avatar to work what is the trick there?
everytime I save it, it jumps me back to the samepage & clears the avatar fields.
any tips?

Cactus, My avatar is an image file saved on my PC. I just hit the browse button upload the avatar image file and then selected the button to turn it on, then clicked the update profile button at the bottom of the page.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Ryan

Thanks for that[:D]

Working as a professional web developer since 1994 helps … [swg]

It might be too large. An avatar needs to be really tiny. It took me several tries before I finally got mine to work by shrinking it to ummm 68x96 (I think)… 96x96 is often the limit for an avatar. Then it also takes a while for the thing to update. So don’t expect an instant response.

Well, lets see if my tweaking of avatar and signature worked…

Yeah, just a bit [swg]

I can’t get those colors to work for my sig. I copied and pasted the color codes, then put the text betweeen “> <” but it doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t show up in my sig, but the text doesnt change color either. then, when I go to my profile to check my sig, the code it all messed up.

DING, I am having the same problem also. I am using MS Internet Explorer Ver 7.0, what are you using for a web browser?

I use MS IE as well, I checked and it’s version 6.0

Hi Joe,

I am disadvantaged by having zero experience as a web developer.

Please tell me how to post a photo. I used to be able to do it by:

  1. Typing square bracket open.
  2. Typing “img”
  3. Typing square bracket close.
  4. Pasting the photo URL.
  5. Typing square bracket open.
  6. Typing forward slash.
  7. Typing “img”
  8. Typing square bracket close.

However, that does not seem to work here.[:(!] What am I doing wrong?

Hey it worked that time!! I have tried several times and it did not work previously.[?]

bush:

Hmm … no idea why that should not work for you. If I type:

[img]http://siskiyou-railfan.net/e107_images/content_pages/Photo21.jpg[/img[/b][b]]

Then here’s what I get:

And unlike the old forum, I can click on images with a portrait orientation like this one and the full sized image comes up.

OK, Joe. I can’t stand it any longer. How DO you get the code to display without the system executing the code?

DING and Joe, I still cannot get colors or font sizes to work. This “may” have something to do with Internet Explorer ver 7 (NEW with new OS VISTA ) , but Ding, you are using IE Ver 6 and it still won 't work, I wonder if anyone else out there is having the same problem with this browser? Any thoughts Joe?

Thanks for the info - guess I had better try to update my info.
