Funiculars aren’t that unusual in this country, I am familiar with the one at Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga and a smaller one overlooking the Mississippi River at Dubuque. There are probably a fair number of others providing access to scenic overlooks.
Two of my favorites are in Johnston, PA… and down the NS ROW at Horseshoe Curve in Altoona.
I rode the one in Dubuque about 12 yrs ago and it was pretty cool. Last time I was there, it wasn’t working.
I sure wouldn’t want to own a funicular railway. I hear its a very up and down business.
My father-in-law was an elevator engineer - I’ve heard that one before.
