MR has been pulling our leg with the April issue since Custer was a cadet. Back in the fifties ole’ Ray L. Rhoades, who printed a byline in each issue, introduced the concept of the “Pressurized basement” - this was reprinted in the mid-60s , which is when I first saw it, - and I’m almost sure it has been reprinted at least one other time. Despite the fact that the mag directs your attention to the first day of the month of issue - April - there are people who still don’t realize that their legs are being pulled.
And I’m one of them - a few years back when it was announced that billionaire Buffett was building a 42,000 square foot building and was going to employ an army of model railroaders to build the complete Wisconsin Central system - spike by spike, tie by tie, locomotive by locomotive, boxcar by boxcar - it took me a few months before I realized that my leg was being pulled!
Being that I’m a computer nerd, I got the joke right away…What’s scarey is it looks like Cody is going to punch Pelle Soberg out with those Wii controlers…LOL

I think they gotcha. Hey does anybody remember a few years back when they ran a story about underground / subway modeling in tubes. After you detailed the tubes you sealed them up. It was supposed to be “all the rage”. For maintenance you cleaned the railroad with gerbils or some other small furry creatures. They had me up to the gerbils part. That one was also very funny.
Every year I’m fished in until about the third-to-last paragraph or so.
As I read, I always think, “This is a dumb idea” and then I reach something like the ninjas in the current gag and I realize I’ve been had.
In my own defence, it being only March 2 might be part of it…
Yeah, I remember that one - PVC pipe, as I remember. Had me going, as well, and I like to think I did NOT just fall off the turnip truck. [:-^]
