Hi, I had registered here a while ago… Then I got busy with other stuff, so that cut down on most of my online time!! I’ve since discovered a new hobby: finding railroad stuff on Google earth. I’ve been finding all kinds of stuff like the old turntable and roundhouse in Bakersfield Ca., old bridges all over the country and I’ve traced back a lot of abandonned righ-of-way across Quebec.
I live in an old railroad town and I was amazed at the info I got from the Internet about Port Hope going back to the late 1800’s.
Welcome back!
Google Earth is indeed fun to goof with. You can kill an amazing amount of time playing with it.
So do you intend to build a module or layout any time soon?
Well, I don’t have much space to mess with as of now. My girlfriend and I just renewed our lease for another year but we’ll probably be looking at buying our first house next year. I’m not committing to anything I don’t want to move!! However I love detailing my locomotives and stuff… I gotta get off my butt and buy a proper airbru***o finish most of them!!
Google Earth! Great Stuff!
I used to live in New Mexico (Clovis NM/Cannon AFB) and I was amazed to see what the old Rail Yard looked like after all of these years. You can see many abandoned items in the shots there plus what is left of the turntable and old Round House. Been thinking of modelling this for sometime. I used to work for the Texaco Distributor in town and our offices were right near this Yard.

Get rid of the girl friend and you will have more room for the model railroad!
