Here’s a pdf for the schedule of this year’s layout tour. I have been to this tour before, You get to see some Great Model Railroads and the price is right…Free!!
If You go You won’t be disappointed! The only drawback is it is on Thanksgiving weekend, However if You are visiting New hampshire or Massachusetts for the Holiday this might interest You too.
Don’t miss this tour! And on Sunday, if you stop in at Keith Shoneman’s PNE, you might get to see me! Yay! All kidding aside, I would highly recommend visiting Keith here in Acton, MA as well as Ace Cutter out in Wakefield, MA. Ace’s layout was featured on the cover of a recent GMR. Those would be just two great picks out of many wonderful layouts on the tour.
[edit] Corrected the name of the town Ace Cutter is located in.
Ace Cutter is actually in Wakefield. If you visit Ace’s layout also check out the Sweetwater & Aberjona in Reading. That is a very well done model railroad, in a very nice environment, with very nice hosts.
Yoshi
With only 16 layout’s this year I should be able to visit them all [8D], If You see Me say Hi. I will be waring a United States Air Force Veteran base ball cap.
GWR, hopefully we’ll run into each other. All 16! I envy you. The best identifiers I can give you right now are that I am a 16 year old teenager of Indian (Asian) descent. I’m not really decided on clothing at this point, but a black NS polo is a good guess. See ya on the tour!
I was disappointed to see that a layout out in Ayer, MA whose owner’s name I cannot remember won’t be on the tour this year. His layout has some really wonderful depictions, some nearly tie for tie with the prototype, of the Rio Grande Southern. Perhaps some of you who had come for the Narrow Guage Convention in Maine last year drove down to see it. Oh well.
I’ll try to be there on Sunday. The Pennsylvania & New England is definitely the highest on my list, but I really don’t know if I’ll be able to make it, as my mother is out of town for the weekend, and my dad has my three year old brother so I doubt I’ll be able to go for any amount of time, if at all…
Hmm…if dad drops me off and takes Andy to the Acton Children’s Museum… Somehow I doubt it - he put up enough complaints when he went to the Boston Science Museum so I could take the train out to Hingham for the SSMRC open house…
Maybe I can bike the 30-odd miles to Acton…[sigh]
Oh, and I don’t see Ace Cutter’s layout on the list - am I missing something?
I’m hoping to hit the 2 Reading layouts, the one in Wakefield, and the one in Georgetown. I’ll be wearing a red St. Louis Cardinals ball cap. I’m a Red Sox fan, but EVERYONE here wears a Sox cap. STL stands out!
A couple years back there was an epic crash of his DCC system, and the difficult of fitting people int he aisle ways may have been a turn off. He hasn’t be in T de C since then.
Remember Tyler… 30 miles there won’t be too terrible, but 30 miles back and its horrible…
I finally made it to some of the layouts! I’ve been meaning to do this for years, but somehow, I never got to it before. This is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I made it to four exhibits. Two were clearly designed for operations, and two had exqusite scenery, but were large enough to accomodate a team for a night of railroading as well.
Thanks to the modellers and organizers for putting this together. Well done, everyone.
I’m glad You made it to at least 4 of them. I went to 6 of them saturday. However I wasn’t able to go today as more important things came up. Next Year I hope My brother will visit from Michigan and We can see them all.
I skipped it this year. My sister was leaving for DC, and I didn’t really want to run away for half the day, not to mention I had no means of getting to the North Side Commuter Rail from the Rhode Island House
