New Haven RS-3 Dynamic Brakes?

Pardon an interloper from cyberspace.

Without the space, $$$ or time for real world modelling, I’m modelling New Haven prototypes for Microsoft Train Simulator

I’m currently working on a series of DERS-2c (RS-3). I know I had this information at one time or another, but were they equipped with dynamic brakes? Looking to get the roof detail correct.

THANKS

In a word: No.

NH RS-3’s were in Phase Ia and Phase Ib body styles (basically they had different batter box louvers), and all were delivered with steam gen. equipment and a air cooled turbo. All were changed to water cooled turbos only a couple years after delivery. Some were also rebuilt in the 1960’s in various phases.

Also, try asking all your New Haven questions at www.nhrhta.org This is the New Haven Railroad Historical & Technical Association’s web site and forum.

Weather Or No Go New Haven

No dynamics on NH RS-3’s.

But any other questions? Do you have photos showing the steam genny set up?

What paint scheme/year are you doing?

I’m starting with McGinnis black and red. Another MSTS modeler graciously modified his model to add the steam gen stack, drop step on the pilot and ATC hardware on the running board. I’ve been working on weathering in Paint Shop Pro.

My plan is to do 4 schemes, the original orange/script herald (black roof and orange roof versions, the red and black McGinnis and the orange and black ‘Alpert’ scheme that 529 currently has.

A labor of love. I grew up in Connecticut and spent a lot of time chasing DERS-2c’s.

If I new how to attach a screen shot on this forum I’d add one, or you can email me off list and I can send you one.

Rick,

Black was never used on script herald schemes except the loco frame and some lettering.

It was #13 Pullman Green on the as-delivered warm orange script herald schemes.
