Been lurking around here for a few weeks and decided to sign up. I’ve been in and out of the hobby since I was 5 (38 now). I will soon be moving into a place with a basement. Even though the space I have will onlyl be about 8 X 18 (HO), I am thrilled to finally have a place to get creative.
Thanks to all that post great info, and I hope not too ask too many silly questions.
Jim
P.S. Anyone know if and when Pelle’s book is coming out?
RacerX - welcome back. Just getting back into it myself. I’d say 8 x 18 is TONS of space for an HO railroad! Just look at the one on the cover of the October MR!
I’m anxiously awaiting Pelle’s book also. His modeling is so realistic, is scary.
Hum, greats hobby in the world, well close. Being new I have had many pit falls but with the help of this site my stuff will not be on E-Bay.
If you are ready to give up at some point, read some of my postings! I bought my first train set this Feb. To say I had no idea what I got my self into is a understatment. But with the help of people here running pretty good.
By the way, welcome and let the great people here help you on your quest. I am not one of them yet but in a few years I will be.
[#welcome]Welcome to YOUR forum and there are a lot of fantastic modelers here that love to and are willing to share, and help each other, theres no such thing as a silly question as there is a lot to learn. You will be helping others in no time, Enjoy the hobby…John
Welcome to the forums, and welcome back to the only hobby that lets you shape the world the way YOU want it!
Take a look around at the many diverse threads here. You will probably stumble onto the answers to a lot of questions you haven’t even thought about asking yet. When you come upon a genuine puzzlement, don’t hesitate to start a thread - just try to put the main question in the title so the real experts can identify what you are looking for.
The nice thing about the forums, from my admittedly biased point of view, is the number of new modeling techniques that show up here. Even this old dog has learned some new tricks.
OLD DOG…NEW DOG…There are always NEW TRICKS!
No matter a newbie or an old timer, there is a wealth of knowledge out here on the forums! I have to ditto the comment that there are NO stupid questions! We all have to learn and the best way is talking to folks that have made the mistakes before you, are willing to share and suggest ways of doing the task a better way.
Over the years I’ve made a HUGE number of bumbles, but I’ve learned (as many others have learned) and we are all more than willing to share…And we’re still all learning too! That’s the “way cool” part of these forums!!
Don’t be afraid to attack a project, even making a mistake or two yourself…Just don’t make the same mistakes twice and then when you’ve learned from those mistakes, share them with the rest of us!
Welcome aboard!
Great to see another new guy now I don’t feel so alone asking questions I’ m sure most these guys heard a million times. I have been in and out for a few years also finnally got a place with enough space to build an EMPIRE myself. I’m in N scale with a layout that is 9x15 and still expanding! Just can’t get enough of it. Welcome back and good luck!!!
