One of my retailers was telling me about a new kato ho scale loco sd40-2 cn with ic markings. He said the production run was really small. I got one reserved. Anyone know anything about this locomotive? Caso |

This is the first I have heard about it. I have been trying to get a Kato SD40-2 for about 4 years now and no joy. I would prefer NS paint on mine but I do have some CSX and BNSF in my roster as well so those roads will be fine as well. Kato really needs to boost the HO production I cant stand the limited availability

I am yes. I amonly really looking for Kato SD40-2s in NS paint. Old or new horsehead is fine. I also dont care what coupler it has or if it has the DCC plug board in it or not but the newer ones with the DCC board and the knuckle couplers would be a plus.

I went to kato’s website and they had a picture of a BN whiteface which i have to get the things got working ditch lights but that was the only photo and roadname i saw.
I think that might be in N-scale. I saw it on the back of the New MR mag.
I thought the same thing at first. But the ad is clearly labelled “HO Scale”. You can also see the applied grab irons in the short hood…none o’ those in N scale!

Yes, Kato does indeed have a new HO scale SD40-2 coming out. I’m a Kato dealer, and I have 8 of them preordered, 4 BN and 4 CN. All I have been told about them at this point is that they will have working ditch lights, but with an MSRP of $179 I think there will be more new goodies as well. Surprisingly the preorders are supposed to be shipping from Kato on May 3rd, just 3 days from now, so we will see soon.
Thats all small pre -order. Is many being produced? Many wholesalers involved in this? Nothing on Walthers site.
From what i saw on there website the add for it is going to be in next months MR which is tomorrow but we dont get them here until the 9th so ive got a few days to wait.
I really don’t know a whole lot about how many of these are being produced and such, but I can tell you that Kato likes to follow in their HO scale line what they have already produced in their N scale line. With that being said, I expect that in a few more months they will release a BNSF and Santa Fe version of this same locomotive. This is pure speculation, but it does seem to be the trend with Kato. I am interested to see what new goodies Kato is going to be putting in this new run of locomotives. It won’t be long before they are out, and I will be sure to let everyone know about them as soon as I get mine.

Go to Katos website and scroll down the left side where they list there other products you’ll see a recent ads box click it and it will be the first ad.

[#oops] I looked at the ad later the next day and realized my mistake.[:I][D)] Usually there’s a N-scale product there. And the loco only come in CN and BN.

I Like the animation of the ditch lights, but I thought that neither BN or CN had flashing ditch lights!
Working Ditch lights!!! I just read a post that BNSF (probably BN back then too) and UP don’t use alternating ditch lights. How ironic. Thanks to those engineers who posted that info, I was about to do surgery on my SD 70s to have them alternate. Now I don’t have to!
As far as limited production, some dealers here in NYC have told me they wonder if Kato is in business. I know they are but a little umfph would be nice from them.
I could really care less about the alternating ditchlights and i wont be able to use them any way because i have my layout in DC power but just the fact the units are going to have ditchlights is good enough for me and its a BN whiteface model you cant beat that!!!
