Have any one heard yet how the new MTH Cab Forwards AC-6 air compressors sound? When the air compressors where moved to the boiler front the sound was much higher and diffrent than before at AC-5 class. Do the new MTH have the right sound?
On the MTH video you can not heard it because the the locomotive never standing still.
I certainly hope that the MTH AC-6 has the ‘talking pumps’ programmed in. However, looking at the video, I noticed that they have not modeled the uprightexhaust stacks coming from the pumps, nor have they modeled the FWH pump on the boiler face below them. However, I notice several mounting holes on the boiler face, so we might be looking at a pre-production model. Hopefully MTH will take care of these little details before they release the loco commercially.
It’s DEFINITELY nice to see an AC-6 (my favorite cab-forward) modeled in other than very expensive brass.
But if MTH forgets to chip in the ‘talking pumps’ with the rest of the sound, they’ll probably have to go back to the drawing board with this one. Most die-hard sound-conscious SP modelers wouldn’t accept the AC-6 without them. I know I sure wouldn’t.
I emailed MTH about the missing hot water pump and received a nice email saying it had broken off of the prototype, but it was indeed on the model that was being imported. I missed the air pump exhaust but that detail might have skipped them also.
I have two of the Intermountain AC12’s and the air pumps sound correct on the Tsunami that is installed.
The problem with any of the MTH models is they are more expensive than my older brass models from the seventies. Granted, they are less money now than any brass out there except the Northern Pacific A4’s by Sunset, but the Z6 cost me $950 with sound. That was a bargain!
