New hotel in Kamloops to offer view of Canadian Pacific main line

Don’t forget, the Union Station hotel has a magnificent view of the CSX main line tracks that fan out to Louisville, Memphis, Chattanooga and Birmingham. Action is almost non-stop. It is part of the Wyndam chain.

I believe it should read Tom Gagliardi- The Rev. Phil passed away a number of years ago

Is that the Nashville, TN Union Station, George?

Union Station, (city unknown),…

how about the nugget in sparks nv. you can watch trains before (or after) they tae on donner pass. or even the harvey house b & b in Slaton, TX. Any others???

No train watching hotel can beat the Izaak Walton Inn in Essex, mt.

Big whoop. Kamloops looks as if it is a sandbar down by the river. And it filled up years ago, so the growth is up on the bluff. Ride the always-disappointing Rocky Mountaineer, and you’ll probably be bused up a very steep road (especially if it is in a school bus) to the upper part of Kamloops to a mega-motel in a group of similar hostelries. Restaurant nearby? Nah, fugeddabouddit! Sorry, Trains, but Kamloops is a miserable excuse of a stopoff on a miserable excuse of a rail journey.

To Tommy Russell Jr.: Last month I had a corner room at the
Sands Regency Hotel/Casino in Reno. It is right across the street from Reno’s trench through the downtown area.

This is a really good idea: a trackside hotel list. Why doesn’t Trains magazine do this? Fans could rate the places according to the standard amenities and then according to the factors appealing to the railfan community. This could be in addition to “Trackside” or a separate page.

How about the Best Western at Cajon Pass? Not that fancy, but a great base of operation for trainwatching.

That would be cool. I hope this hotel will advertise in the rail fan press. There is a Hiatt in Emeryville California that has great rooms with a balcony overlooking the tracks, where one can observe Capitals, San Joaquins, The Coast Starlight, The California Zephyr plus many freight movements.

it’s a shame “Rocky Mountaineer” does not promote the Kamloops Steam operation, they don’t even announce its availability on my recent trip there.
The Steamer was fired up in the yard, but we were whisked away to a motel on outskirts of town, that was too far out to easily return later.

hope the hotel has provision to walk out onto the deck and sit and watch trains been to camloops a couple of times great train watching spots… casino in reno i believe its called banions was good for watching trains and the motel at mohave also good

To John Blake: Yeah? The trench aint what it used to be. i was there right before they opened it up for rail traffic. alot of it is covered up now and there used to be a ped crossing bridge by the eldorado and you could see from one end of the trench to the other. but not anymore.
