I lived in Lumberton about 4 yrs ago. I use to belong to the MRR club in Cinnaminson, BCMRRC. I really miss that club.
I won’t hold the politician thing against you. I think the MRR thig overrides any other paradigm.
How’s Satler’s? Is Bruce still chugging along there?
Also, one big thanks. I found your website about 2yrs ago. Once I started the layout with my Dad we used your idea for the cork road bed cutting chig. I love that thing. In fact you can see it on the post about the layout HERE. It’s about half way down the page. One 12’ roll of cork was enough for the whole layout, and a little extra for pads under buildings. Thanks again.
Lumberton, that brings back memories. Got my commercial pilot’s license and flight instructor certificate at Flying W airport. Coolest thing at that airport was the airplane shaped built in pool!
Cool, I heard about that pool, but never saw it. I’ve seen similar pix on Google Earth. Say, were you the one doing loop-da-loops over my house that day?[;)]
I was born in Philly, too. But now live in North Jersey. That’s almost like Texas…[:D]
And yes “School Kill” is how you pronounce it. And the expressway is still a death trap… but hey it’s got a nice view of the river and the PRR mainline. Really close to Zoo Tower also.
My Grandfather was an engineer for the PRR, Penn Central and then Conrail. He once let my engineer a GG1 in the yard, my one and only time in the seat.
I use to live in Budd Lake. I use to frequent Hackettstown often. Yes I’ve been up and down the state of New Jersey. I don’t know of any clubs in that area. Did you check out MRR’s directory?
I use to have a 2-1/2’ x 4’ N scale layout set up on one of my old apartments. I really like that layout. Right now it’s packed away in my father-in-laws barn. I think the last time I saw it the racoons used some of the mountains as bedding.[#oops] It was one of the Atlas plans, a figure 8 with an outside loop, a small yard and passing siding. I managed to fit a lot of nice scenery on that thing. One great advantage of N scale. I guess I could bring that thing back to life in the future, but I’m busy enough with my Dad’s layout and my club.
Speaking of Skoo kill, back in the late 50’s I use to work for the Federal Electric Corporation in Paramus NJ. FEC had the contract to maintain the DEW line. ( Distant Early Warning - The eyes and ears of NORAD.) The guys manning the radar stations up in Alaska and Canada use to pronounce it Paramoose.
I’ve been to the Cinnaminson Club, during their Christmas season open house. Nice layout!
Sattler’s is going good. I just recently ordered a Sunset Models NP steamer from him.
Cool that you were able to use my roadbed factory idea! I notice your dad improved upon it with the spacer block for setting the width - even cooler! I just use a tri-square with the scale set to the right width off the 90-degree edge.
I lived in CLifton and Little Falls. Then retired to Polk City Fl. I do O Scale passenger stuff, PRR Erie, and Jersey Central, all steam heavy weight era. There is not too much space for O Scale in a non basement home but a spare bed room allows enough running space to let me watch my Erie Linited roll around a loop. Traction interests share the space.
