New Kate Shelly bridge damaged??

I was wondering if anyone else had heard anything about the new Union Pacific bridge between Ogden and Boone Iowa being damaged by a crane falling during construction? I got the very end of a news bit friday at noon and they were talking about it. Thanks!! Robertdale

I heard something about a component of a crane falling as it was being dismantled. A major non-event, from the sound of things, but perhaps some of the folks who see the bridge regularly could weigh in.

It damaged one of the concrete pans where the track will go. I’ve heard it’s going to push back the opening by a few days.

Okay, Thank you for the info, like I said I caught the very end of the story and guess we all know how the media can make a mountain out of a mole hill. I’ve been thinking that maybe the ghost of Kate doesn’t want a new bridge there, as much trouble as they’ve had building the thing. If I recall correctly, by the time it goes into use will be almost a year behind schedule. Thanks again

Headline: “Collapse causes 10-day setback for UP high bridge” in the Boone News-Republican, on May 21, 2009.

However, after a quick skim, I have trouble understanding exactly what went wrong. It has some other details about last year’s flooding and structural challenges, too.
