There are a couple of photgraphs of the first covered hopper over on the Trainorders Forum. It looks very nice. Yes the paint scheme is complimentary to the locomotive scheme, but obviously somewhat simpler. Mostly Dark Brunswick Green, with large Stop sign Logo, larger than normal KCS reporting mark in Red-Lined Yellow, Red and Yellow stripe along the bottom edge of the body
With all due respect, I never said a word about how KCS treats its employees. I said that more money spent for fancy paint is less money for other improvement. (better cab interiors, better running engines, better track that doesn’t throw you around, etc etc.)
I don’t like seeing work done in Mexico, period. Whether it is painting GEs or making Hershey Bars. I have too much pride in this country. There is only one reason to do anything in mexico - cheap labor. If your friends do not see that as a threat, then they should take off their dark safety glasses.
With all due respect you should learn the facts before posting messages which show your preconceived biases. You apparently don’t know that the KCS operates over a thousand miles of trackage in Mexico (the former TFM) as its wholly owned subsidiary, the Kansas City Southern de Mexico. The KCSdeM runs from the International bridge at Laredo, TX to Matamoros, Tampico, Mexico City, Lazaro Cardenas and Veracruz. For this reason, NOT because of cheap labor, it is quite natural that KCSdeM work be done at their shops in San Luis Potosi.
You will probably be surprised to learn that the new US locomotives of the KCS are being painted at Metro East Industries in E.
I guess I view it a different way. It was, perhaps, the realization that we were having a rather stupid arguement about nothing in particular. (shrugs)[:P]
On a different note-I don’t get the hot dog references, but, as in the past, it may very well be something off a TV show, and I don’t watch TV.[;)]
