The only thing proven about HOG is how often you trot it out when someone wants help rolling their own plan.
HI Maxx
You could consider getting yourself a copy of Trainz and “building” and “operating” your layout on your computer first before committing to board work and checking if you enjoy it and explore the possibilities. It won’t matter if you do not get the scale quite right … we all imagine our layouts to be bigger than they are anyway. Trainz will allow you to texture your layout … yes and place buildings and run trains and you can check out various arrangements… and there are cheap old versions around…
Just a thought from a fellow (ex) South Australian … hope this helps!

Hi Trevor - I purchased a copy of the latest Trainz 12 last week but have yet to install it. I’ve tried the Surveyor feature in an earlier edition but couldn’t work out how to do it to HO scale (which I believe it can do). I’ll have a go at the weekend as I’ve got my basic bench work pretty well completed and anxious to ‘play’ with it. I’m sure I’ve got the cart before the horse however.
HI Maxx,
Don’t worry about the shape or relative size/scale … it is more that you can operate what you feel you will be building…
However I have just checked it out and you can work in HO scale when the first screen loads up… what advantage that has is another thing I guess as I haven’t got into it ,
Good Luck with it and keep us posted… the website has my personal email if you feel so inclined,
Regards
Trevor
