New layout in N scale Need Help !!!!!!

So after many moves with the military I am finally getting to stay in one place for awhile. Like most of us we forget things we have picked up. During my recent move, I discovered that I had purchade the WS N-Scale (S-Ridge) so I have a 12x12 layout room. My beautiful wife has given me permission to use it (Thanks babe). So my Idea is to have the Saltlake as one end and the WS as the other end. The problem is connecting the two a module in between is my thought just not sure of how to tie the two track plans together they both have cruves and sidings. Need Help!!!

I’m confused. Are you saying that you have 2 separate layouts that are both built on separate structures and you want to connect the 2 layouts together with a transition piece? Pictures may also be helpful.

using two small layouts in a big room might kind of limit your options. why not build your own layout?

Are you familiar with how to Post scanned diagrams, or photos on “Trains.com Forums”. You must first establish a free account with Photobucket.com. Name an Album in which you desire to place your model railroad related pictures. Insert the pictures, “with a descriptive name”. Each photo will have four options below it. You click on the IMG option. (Or, if you have Thumbnail photos, you click on the small square to the left below the photo, then click on the URL rectangle below the photo. The photo will then have a fine blue border. Then, click on Edit in the upper Tool Bar, and scroll down to Copy, Click on it.). Now go back to the Trains.com Forum, where you either start a new Thread, or click on Reply, to add something to someone else’s Thread. Type in your Text to accompany the picture. Then click on ctrlV ( or go to Paste on the Edit Tool bar, and click on it.) The lengthy code for the picture will appear. Then scroll down to Post, and click on it. The Text and picture, will soon appear at the end of the Thread, or as your New Thread. You can always click on Edit (above your Thread, to correct any typos, or delete the picture, or Text. It is not as difficult as it may seem. Bob Hahn

sorry, I ment what I would like to do is have the MR Salt lake Route and the WS layout as end sections of my layout. My wife agreed to this project on the basis of that layout be able to move with us in few years. So I have to stay with a modular theme. Thanks…

A truly sectional approach will serve you much better for moves than connecting those two islands, as well as more efficiently using your currently available space.

It’s hard to understand from your original post, but I think you are saying that you already own the Woodland Scenics Scenic Ridge kit, but not built-up?

If so, using that as one end of the layout could be a good approach (built with a slightly different track plan than they suggest).

A series of sections ending with another turnback loop section would be much more likely to fit the next space than trying to fit the 4X9 chunk of MR’s Salt Lake Route layout. Easier to move, too.

Best of luck.

Let me introduce you to Dave Vollmer, who also is in the military (USAF) and has kept his N scale itch scratched with a fantastic door layout…

Dave is a periodic poster in these pages, but he’s very open to offering guidance to anyone interested in portable N scale layouts. He’ll be your absolute best resource for your situation.

I;d say definately a modular joiner between the 2 routes with some nicely detailed scenery and bridge or two.
