New Layout

I just ran my first train around the upper loop today. An N scale 2-8-0 with 2 boxcars. Building since Apr with alot more to do but the main works along with a few sidings on one side of the room. Feels good!!!

The empire is in a 10.5ft by 12ft bedroom with two levels and an interconnecting helix tucked in the closet. My wife (yes she is my partner in the empire) are attempting to model Canadian National mainline to branchline in Southern Ontario.

Upper level is 61inches and lower level is 38inches above floor. Heliz is less than 2% grade. Shelf construction with an upper/lower peninsula (24inches wide) in the middle of the room. Duckunder the upper loop on entering. Lower level does not connect in a loop.

Lower level still tool storage.

Great to watch the first train run.

Congratulations! I remember that same feeling when my first locomotive (an old Con-Cor SW1500) took off and completed its trek around my layout without incident.

It only gets better! I soon upgraded to a pair of LL SD7’s after the ballast was laid. They looked beautiful as they glided through the layout with about 20 cars in tow. be careful not to get too caught up in running trains or your layout construction might slow down [;)]

Do you have a track plan and/or pictures?

I have a hand-drawn plan on 17in by 22in graph paper and I do have photos but posting all that is another learning experience.

We are modeling the late 50s to early 60s change from steam to diesel that CN underwent at the time.

Congrats, cant wait to be there myself.

Very nice. I just ran my first long train, a 32 car coal drag last week. I well remember the first voyage over the high bridge. It just gets better and better. You can learn to post pics. I did. I used Photobucket.com and am glad I did. I assume the other sites work as well. There have been some threads that taught me, but they were a while ago.

congratz ! it must feel great

Hey thats awesome man, about your first train running. I also model in a 10 x 12 foot bedroom, Just started my track this past weekend, but am yet to solder the wires on to it yet (this weekend I will) I also model N scale but in Northern ontario (Kenora exactly) but Canadian Pacific with an interchange with my Canadian Shield. 1959 is the time as well! I am very interested to see pics, swap pics…perhaps you could email them?

Canadian Shield

Did someone say CN in Southern Ontario ? Feel free to email pics of your layout - where are you located.

I’m in Cambridge. I’ll try the pic posting when back from work.
