Beautiful! It takes some fine modeling to look that realistic in close-up photography. A hearty, “well done.”

Nice work Paul. Welcome to the forum.Looks like your a pretty intense student of the American scene. Lemme know if I can help w/photos ets. I live in a rural(farming) area though.

That ranks right up there with John [%-)] ???'s Sweet Home Chicago layout. John is in england, anyone else see the irony in these European modelers doing amazing layouts based on prototypes in the states? Great work!

I already stumbled on the home page of your layout a few months ago while doing a web search for something else. Great layout and great modelling.

I especially love your scratchbuilt (and big) structures - very well done !

I am most impressed with the extra details that you have applied to the scenes, a great layout. No if only you had modeled the steam era…(Just kidding)

How long did it take to get to this stage?

HOLY COW!!![bow] That’s some fantastic work! My only recommendation would be to use a better camera so the background/foreground is clearer. That layout is magazine worthy![tup]

I’m confused; is the layout in the pictures on the website the new one, or the old one? The website doesn’t make it too clear. either way… wow! Thats actually what i said outloud under my breath last night when i first saw this thread, prompting my girlfriend to look up from her The Witches of Lancashire play text that she has to read for her literature class and also proclaim “wow!”

that is some damn fine modeling. its actually inspired me to get to work more on my own layout, and I saved a bunch of pictures for reference.

I do have one question though. I LOVE the ballast color and texture that you’ve got in the yard/industry tracks. What did you use? Its that grimy black stuff, but it doesn’t look like cinders. THATS the kind of ballast i’ve been looking for and have been imagining in my head. the best example is on this page:

Its the 2nd picture down, where you see the mainline’s limestone(?) ballast overtop the black yard ballast. I want that black ballast!!! haha

Hi Greg,

There is an industrial area near to my house where there are a lot of tracks. I just went over there and collected the black dust that was next to the ballast of the tracks with a small shovel.

At home I sifted the whole thing and mixed it with a very small amount of fine light gray woodlands scenics ballast.

This was the cheapest ballast I have ever used[:P]
