What do you get when you take 3 Lamar, Mo seventh graders, 2 hoom dont have any idea what model rail roading is, 45 minuts a day, and only standerd art room suplies (I suplied the track and trains, duhh)? You get a train in a desert! Here’s some pics:

An over veiw.

Some other pics.

The access hatches.

I know it doesn’t look like a pro’s, but remember the only materials that where available where the board, news paper, glue , cardboard , scissors, xzakto knives, sand, and about 25 45 min. days.

It’s still a work in progress, I’m still trying to fix the derailments. The finishing sand I wont add until the art show, which I will operate it at.

Looks nice. Looks great when you say what you had to use. It’s great you’re showing fellow teens model railroading, gonna be teaching a class on it to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders ove rat my school (those 8th graders are my classmates though). To stop the derailments, 2 things you can do:

  1. check and make sure that no rail went over the rail joiner

  2. look along the top and insides of the rails for stray pieces of sand and such that might have stuck on

Also, can youy add a quarry for that spur. shouldn’t be too difficult. Walthers sells a kit for a gravel company, which shouldn’t be too difficult to change around to your needs.

Well about that…

  1. That sand that’s there, it was mixed with glue to an oatmeal like substance then put on and smoothed and it doesn’t come off easy.

  2. The points on the turnout and froze into the mainline position and I don’t know why.

  3. I was going to make an abandoned factory, but ran out of time. I did start it however. It was based out of cardboard and I had started paper mashaying it (I know that’s spelled wrong, but I don’t know french).

That certainly looks like you’re getting there. Keep it up.

As for switch being stuck check to see that there isn’t any glue in there as well as any particles like sand bits or such. I’ve even had a couple of switches have spurs on the switch itself and the frogs/points.

Again though, keep up the good stuff…

Ditto. I’ve gotten them stuck with glue before.

As to removing sand, you can just chisel it out, if you want. An abandoned factory sounds good though. Hey, why not create a ghost town?

Must say it looks pretty good, I still might go N scale after looking at yours.

Ken

Looks great!! I like the baren desert look.

Could you explain to me what you are trying to say here "3 Lamar, Mo seventh graders, 2 hoom . I get the seventh graders part, and I think that hoom is whom but the Lamar, mo has me baffled. I am not trying to pick on you for the spelling issue as I think that horse has been beaten enough but, I just am not sure what you are saying. Maybe Lamar is a school term I am not familiar with.

Keep up the good work. It is refreshing to see someone of your age doing something creative and showing your friends how to do it.

Dan, I believe “Lamar” is the town in Missouri where the poster resides.
“Three Lamar Missouri seventh graders, to whom…”

Wow, that makes perfect sense now. It is amazing how the brain can’t see something that plain sometimes.

Well, you kinda got it right. I go to school in lamar, but I’m living large in the suburbs of Iantha!!! YEA!!!
