New Lionel FEF Staem Engine Huge Item missing

The new Lionel FEF Union Pacific Steamer Has no front coupler at all. It can not be double headed or run at the end of a train. Frankly spending over $1000. dollars and not having front and rear couplers is Bush League preformance by Lionel. They can not expect to turn outpoorly engineered items such as the new Legacy system and the FEF Steamer and sell them to the modelers of today! trainsopray1 Rockville,MD

Dude, feel free to rant, but you should be advised that the model comes with a scale, dummy coupler that rotates from behind a door on the pilot.

It also comes with an O gauge coupler which you can install yourself. Doesn’t sound like bush league to me.

Do you own one? If so, check the manual.

What a fine looking engine. Can’t wait to see your video, Bob.

On page 52 of the Lionel catalog 2008 Vol 1, shows the swingout coupler. Mine has it and also the changable O scale coupler. Not a BUSH LEAGUER here runs, sounds and is probably my favorite engine.

Took me quite a while to get my smooch marks off of the smoke deflectors …

Bob and Laz, per the CTT review, are either of you considering replacing the warning light with a red cover or bulb?

Poorly engineered items such as the new Legacy system? What you basing this information on? I have the new Legacy system and flat out love it compared to DCS and the TMCC remotes. If you don’t like remote, that is personal choice, but it does not mean it is ‘poorly engineered’.

LOL!.. Hope they don’t use lead paint anymore… but anywho… I want one, I want one, I want ONE! Thanks Lionel!

As I believe I posted in another thread … the engine is worthy of having New York Central on its tender …

Call Lionel at 1-800-4lionel and tell them your FEF did not include the front tinplate coupler. They will ship one to you.

Wow. Talk about your 0 for 2 post!

lionel will send you a replacement lens free. i got it. works great.

No, the lens color doesn’t bother me …

I might have to get in touch with Lionel but like BOB said it really doesn’t bother me. I need a few minor things from them anyway. Thanks for the heads up JEROME.

“They can not expect to turn outpoorly engineered items such as the new Legacy system and the FEF Steamer and sell them to the modelers of today!”

They don’t expect to sell their products to hobbiests who have gone on record as strongly preferring the products of their competitors either :). I’m wondering whether you own either the FEF or Legacy, but perhaps you’ll enlighten us whether these opinions are based upon close personal experience?

All companies strike out badly on the occasional product from time to time, and Lionel is no different, but you’re in distant left field about these two products, from what I’ve seen, heard and handled myself.

I’ll just throw my 2 cents in here. I work Saturdays at the Local Train Store, and have YET to hear anything BAD about the Legacy. There is some griping about having to send it back for programming, but having said that, the control and features out weigh the 5-7 day inconvienience of not having it. I HAVE heard, however, more problems with the DCS 4.0-.01-.02 downloads (MTH) than Legacy. As of late, seems Lionel has more on the ball than MTH (and I’m not starting a fight/discussion, just an observation).

I haven’t seen the FEF, it’s just not my cup o’ tea, but again, it seems that there are ALOT of happy customers with this unit.

2 swings and 2 misses…wanna go for strike 3?

Been wanting one bad. Think Lake House is going to take all my train funds for a while. [:(] Thought Bob or Laz would send me theirs to test. [:-^][(-D]

Chief…Maybe that should be the collective price of admission at that big bash you will be throwing for us at your new lakeside playground. Just a thought. [:D]

I’ll chip in a couple bucks[(-D][swg]

Since there’s some rant’n and rave’n goin on I thought this might be a good thread to give a Legacy heads up. At the store we’ve been having some bugs using Legacy, TMCC and a modern ZW linked up for the layout. After contacting LIonel we’ve found out that some ZW’s, the early units, need a chip on the mother board switched out to work properly with Legacy. The surgury is scheduled for Friday when I’m in the store again.
