Spent most of the morning at the train show in Bixby. Didn’t find the swithcer I was looking for, but I did find this
A Spectrum DASH8-40C, Union Pacific, a great runner and great condition–$45. I love the slow gearing on this locomotive! Now my SD70ACe will have some high-hp comany. Only problem is a rubbing sound coming from the inside, but I can probably figure that out pretty quick.

PS–Sorry for the crummy photo, my phone doesn’t have the best camera [:$]
Warren Buffet would be SO proud! {but his trainsets are much bigger}.
Hope it provides you with long and trouble free operation.
I own several {12 plus for a very small layout} Bachmann locos, Both regular issue and Spectrum Issue, all DCC OnBoard and only one has me “cause for pause”. It “grinds” at slower speeds.
SHould you continue to have problems with yours, or if it continues to make noise after you “fix it”, I would send it in to Bachmann’s repair center in Philly pretty quick. They are supposed to be one of the best at fixing locos and honoring their warrantees!
I have the wide-cab version of this engine. Sure, it’s not up to the standards of Atlas or current Spectrum, but boy is it a smooth runner![:D] And it’s heavy, too! My only other high-quality diesels at the time were a Genesis SD75M and Proto 1000 DL-109, and the 8-40CW ran great next to them. Mine has the high-speed double-threaded worms though, so yours must be from when they started using single-thread worms if it has slow gearing.
