Here’s a pic of my newest locomotive. It’s a Broadway Limited 2-8-2 (USRA Heavy Mikado). The locomotive came equipped with full sound effects and is pre-wired for DCC. The only upgrades were: (WS) Engineer and Fireman, Kadee couplers, (Cal Scale) marker lights and jewels, oil radiator, generator, and tool box for the tender. The Mikado was weathered with a heavy A&I stain then dry brushed with “aged” silver to bring out the piping and other “cast-on” details.
Very nice Bob. I have 2 of the BLI Mikes and like them very much.
Excellent work and one of my favorites…John
That ought to be a good hard worker for ya!
Very nice Bob!
And the highly anticipated video would be …where, exactly? [:D]
I hope that fine locomotive is giving you lots of pleasure, Bob.
Selector took the words right off my keyboard! We all love pictures and moving pictures are even more fun. Can’t wait to see/hear it in action.
Tom
Bob,
The quote above confuses me. If it is equipped with full sound effects, would it not also have a decoder for DCC? Or is that what you meant and I am misinterpreting? The “pre-wired for DCC” I took as meaning having the harness, but not the decoder. What they often term “DCC ready” rather than DCC equipped.
I am not just being picky. I am trying to get a handle on all the DCC lingo.
I am a bit worried about your driver (engineer, sorry). It’s OK to hang out the window in the yard, but what about when he gets out on the pike? Or perhaps you have something in the cab to move him according to the situation?
A nice loco. I can tell that you love it from the write up.
Beautiful work, Bob! I assume you make your own figures, given their numerous poses. How do you do it? (And I couldn’t find the link to your trackplan on your website.) Rick Krall
Rick:
The link to my trackplan is found by clicking on the first pic as you scroll thru the home page. Once you get to the map, you can select a sub-menu showing that section of the layout in more detail. As far as the figures go. They are a combination of Woodland Scenics, Prieser, and Weston mini figures.
Bush9245:
Sorry for the confusion. The locomotive came DCC equipped but can also be run on DC.
Very nice Bob, and I really like your layout!! Excellent job !!!
That is very gorgeous
Austin
Bob: Now I understand! Well done–the links and pics from the trackplan is a really good idea! Thanks. Rick Krall
Bob, always admire your work and attention to detail. Really nice. I have this loco from BLI and have been pondering how I would weather it. What is A&I stain ? Achohol and ink ? What is your mix if I may ask ?
Regards,
Tom:
Yes, A&I is an acronym for alcohol and ink. Usually, my mixture runs 20/80 ink to alcohol. However, for this project I mixed a 40/60 ratio. The dry brushing lightens up the stain a bit by giving it a “sun-bleach” effect.
