new Lrc coaches from rapido

The lrc coaches have arrived at my local dealer. Has anyone purchased them yet and are they worth the money 67 plus tax canadian any problems with them before I buy one? thanks rambo1…

My dealer has shipped the 3 coaches I pre-ordered, and I should have them by the end of next week. I’ve never been more excited for any piece of model railroad equipment than I am for these coaches! They look fantastic, but I can’t yet say how they look in person.

When I do get them later in the week, I’ll post my thoughts on them. I expect someone else will have theirs by now and be able to comment. There are lots of us who have been waiting a long time for these!

Based on past Rapido products and the pictures I’ve seen of these LRCs, I think they’re sure to be more than worth the sticker price.

I;m not a modeller of the LRC, but yes, I can agree that the Rapido product is well worht the price.

I just want to know are they delicate to handle .rambo1…

I expect the end details (MU receptacles, grab irons and stirrups, etc) may need to be treated with care (as with any model’s detail parts), but I expect the coaches overall should be much more durable than previous Rapido cars. The simple reason is that the prototype LRC coaches have an almost 100% enclosed underbody, so there aren’t all those tiny little pipes and things running all over the place, that can be so easily damaged on Rapido’s insanely accurate models.

So really, the LRCs should be much less delicate to handle than other Rapido Super Continental cars, although I’m sure they should be treated with the same care as any fine model!

I had one in my hands yesterday and I gotta say they look great.

thanks guys think I’ll buy one. rambo1…

Just curious…

What color is the coach interior?

Somewhere in my files (I have to dig) there is a photo of a VIA LRC coach interior. I “vaguely” remember the seats being an attractive blueish-green or turquoise color. I’ll continue searching for that photo, but as stated, I’m just curious. [;)]

This first run of coaches has the interior painted in the original “as-delivered” colours, which has brown seats and some red and silver elsewhere. When the interiors were re-done in 1992 (or was it '93?), the seats were done in that nice turquoise-green colour in the coaches, and maroon red in the club cars. The real coaches still have these interior colours, at least until they get rebuilt over the next few years.

Rapido has said they plan to do a run of the coaches and club cars in the modern (post-1998) scheme, with the large waving flag, the “Canada” logo, and the update “VIA 1” logo (on the club cars) next, which will likely be announced next year. These cars will have the updated green or maroon interiors.

If you go on the Wikipedia page for “VIA Rail”, and scroll down to the “travelling on VIA” section, there are two photos, one of the LRC business class (Club car) interior with the maroon seats, and one of the coach interior with the green seats.
