New MBTA Somerville station opens

The Orange Line is rapid transit, lest anyone be confused by the commuter train photo.

That’s a nice picture, but it has very little to do with this news story. Is there not a picture of the orange line in Trains archives?

Looks like it was fixed.

good

The location the train station is built on used to be the B+M rail yards that serviced the old Ford Plant and the First National Stores distribution center. At one time they averaged 50,000 freight cars a year in those yards. It has been a start and stop redevelopment on the shores of the Mystic River. It includes stores , apartments and office buildings. The Green line extension is about a mile and a half away and goes West along the old B+M Northern route while the Orange Line runs along the old Eastern route of the B+M.
