Didn’t find an introduction section so posting in general. Been reading your board for years, learned a lot, finally decided to register. Received my first ho train set when I was 5 (perhaps to early), worked on garage layout few years back and now finally planning for decently sized HO scaled road in family room. Looking forward
Welcome Anton. Come on up to Milwaukee for Trainfest November 10 and 11. You’d see lots of operating layouts, free clinics, hobby dealers and manufacturers, and get to meet staffers from Kalmbach Publishing. Plenty of folks from Chicago area come up for this. The featured railroad this year is the Great Northern.
[#welcome] to the forum. An introductory forum would be a good idea. An amazing number of newbies, in their first post, answer a question that Anonymous asked 10 years ago. [:D]
Don’t just lurk share and give opinions. Some of what you believe might be wrong. If you don’t put it in writing and get called out for it, you will never know. Of course that has never happened to me. [}:)]
Thanks for the welcome guys. I do write on two more forums. To be honest registering here today was triggered by a post i wanted to respond to as well as picking your collective brain for notes on my new layout plans.
I also love to look at pictures. For now however I can only offer pictures of so so work from years back that long been demolished (prior to house move ).
Seems like I’m still not completely out of new user quarantine zone
Hi Jim. Buffalo Grove to be exact. about half hour away from Norm’s shop in Mundelein and Desplaines hobby. Taking Metra to DT everyday provides me with a very interesting railfanning opportunities.
i did attend the great midwest show this past weekend. Yet again I didn’t manage to get out with all the bills i got in with :).
Ok not too far from where our son had went to Bible College at Dayspring over in Lake Zurich. Desplaines was one of my favorites there but it was a little far out for me. I generally would up at Grayland Station over on Devon as it was closer to where I was ministering. Would often stop over in Zientecs (SIC) in Pilson sometimes. Jim
Anton … Welcome to the forum . I grew up in Chicago area . My family moved there from TN when I was a small child. I lived there until after completing high school . Now, I model mostly CB&Q because I could see that railroad from the window of my childhood bedroom.
Good luck with your family room layout. Enjoy building it. Feel free to tell us what you envision.
Welcome if you haven’t been before I recommend the Prairie Scale Model Railroad Club in Lombard their website is here: https://www.psmrr.org/
They have friday run days and don’t mind people stopping by if you shoot them an email first they also are very generous unlike some (ahem elmhurst) when it comes to running their own and bringing your own equipment.
I’ve yet to visit the club at Lombard, proably do need to make time and stop by. did have a chat with them last week at the show, I mean think it was them, the layout scheme on the table looks awefully familiar .
here is the link to my plannning thread i just created. looking forwards to any input. thanks!
Hello and welcome! I was in the same boat as you, except I joined after a shorter period of time. As an off topic side note totally out of curiosity, what is the tank whose tread is pictured in your profile? Tanks happen to be another one of my loves.
Hello and thank you. No, did not had a chance to get out to that store. to be honest this is the first time I hear about it
The pic I use for avatar (on all forums I write on) is M60 Patton. We had quite a relationship with it some years back. I cannot but be very passioned about armor
